I sleep for 2 or 3 hours a night. I feel terrible, even worse if I take sleeping drugs. I've tried everything, the only thing that worked was moving to a new country and earning loads of money. I've lost that life now and I'm in another country, i have not slept for 3 years, an hour here and there. The sub conscious hold all of our worries and they are responsible for our sleeplessness, find out what the mind is worried about and you will be cured. If I could earn big money again I think I would sleep. I wish you luck in hunting down what your sub conscious is secreting away from you. Tony in remotest Indo-China.

try exercising during the day and do strenuous activity. Exercise the mind as well. Never sleep an hour after eating a heavy meal and try to take warm cocoa or chocolate with lots of milk. If that doesn't work for you, try counting backward from 1000. The regular 1-1000 will not work because your mind just "recites" the sequence without much effort while backwards - it will make your brain function more to keep the numbers in sequence. Put some soft music on as well to help you mind relax. Get off coffee after 6pm.

Sleep can be extremely difficult at times, especially during the summer months our bodies just aren't set up for it. The sunshine keeps us awake, first things have you considered you may have SAD? This is a disorder that is usually associated with the winter blues but it is directly linked to sunlight, if you feel dull listless and want to sleep all the time in winter hey guess what if you have a bad case then its going to keep you awake in summer.
Its worth a thought but might not be the case.
Here a some of my tips.
Do not drink caffeine after 2 in the afternoon it takes several hours to dissipate.
Avoid alcohol if you can you may get to sleep but its not quality sleep.
Exercise but not too late in the evening the chemicals exercise produces take a couple of hours to go.
Routine Routine Routine. set up a bedtime routine Whatever it is stick to it. Mines watch a bit of telly, read a book go to the loo and then to sleep.
If you cant sleep get up and do something for a while.
Avoid deep thinking you'll still be worrying about it in bed.
Take a sleeping tablet, but only for a couple of days this can help reset your sleep mechanism.
Finally inability to sleep or to sleep excessively can be a sign of clinical depression go and see your doctor

Listen ignore all these twats who have already answered. have you tried reading a book before you try to sleep. Firstly it will help keep your mind off trying to sleep & secondly it automatically relaxes the brain & in no time you will be dozing off. Initially it may take an hour or so but soon you will be getting a great nights sleep. also do some exercise in the evening but not too soon before you go to bed. Best of luck with the sleep & just one last tip. dont play insomnia by faithless before you go to bed.

Ignore those trying to lure you to using sleep-aiding drugs.
Do this:
1. Do a heavy exercise for 15 minutes e.g. climbing & descending the staircase several times, sit-ups, push-ups, etc.
2. Take a shower.
3. Drink a full cup of cold milk or fruit juice.
4. Lie on your bed, take 5 deep breaths, & mentally count from 10 down to 1 (do this slowly & effortlessly). Keep repeating the count down.
Goodnight baby, Sweet dreams!

Your mind/brain is working, too much things on your head! Relax! Plug in your headphones, playing some soft & soothing music. Listen to the music and not thinking what's in your head! Or to get your mind off things, concentrate on your breathing - slow and easy for this. Lights off in the room and if possible, a blindfold over your eyes. Sleep well, my friend.

A cup of hot milk and honey always works, well after a good hour of working out or even brisk walking, tire your body out, try avoid the tv before you go to bed and maybe even look into a bit of Homeopathy, Aconite used to send me straight to sleep when I had trouble, try not to think about it too much and make sure you're getting out and about during the day and keeping yourself active, maybe even light some lavender insense or lavender candles, its quite calming! I used to sprinkle a bit of lavender oil on my pillow, sent me into a coma (not literally) good luck x

if you have not been sleeping for a while at night you start thinking why your not sleeping and that keeps you awake your mind starts working overtime so don't lie there thinking that your not going to sleep, think of some thing relaxing and calm.

i hate when that happens.
it will come eventually, but maybe your room is too hot?
have you been eating before you go to sleep, because things like cheese effect your sleep. i can never sleep after eating a lot before i go to bed.
have you tried drinking warm milk?
if it lasts for much longer then you shound just go to the doctor about it.
