most hot dogs need only to be grilled or fried and not boiled. about 5 minutes of constant turning should leave your hot dog tender and juicy (don't forget to make diagonal cuts on your hot dog). place your hot dog on a lightly toasted bun, then top with any or a combination of the following:
1. chopped onions
2. chopped or vertically sliced pickles
3. grated or sliced cheese (cheddar or any similar type)
4. chili
5. bacon bits
6. crushed pineapple (a Hawaiian twist)
7. whatever suits you

plus mayo, mustard and/or ketchup. again up to you.

go for all beef franks.

FYI. any meat, veggies or dairy product in between slices of bread IS a sandwich.

I get a fry pan and put a 1/2 inch of water in it.
Put the hotdog in and cook on medium heat with a lid on it slightly cracked open.
As the water steams and dissipates the hotdogs begin to brown after about 15 minutes.
I toast the buns and then put the hotdog in with sliced pickles, thinly sliced red onion and mustard. Sometimes sauerkraut. Never ketchup.
Two usually does it and a good beer never hurts.

Hot dogs are best dropped in boiling water. After about 3 minutes in the boiling water, you take them out. Don't use a microwave oven! While your hot dog is boiling, get some hot dog buns and put your favorite condiment on the buns. Or better yet have a lot of condiments out and let your guest pick their preference. Condiments are: Ketchup, mustard, pickles, sweet pickle relish, sauerkraut, grated cheese, thinly sliced onions, even jalapeno peppers. Chili is another part of the story. Canned chile is fine. Enjoy.

Congratulations for not calling it a "hot dog hamburger".
Cook the sausage by boiling a couple of minutes-or for better taste, grill it . Use a hot dog bun or a slice of white bread folded over. In America we use yellow, prepared mustard or which ever one you like. Many people eat a hot dog with only mustard, others add sweet pickle relish and/or chopped onions-or ad whatever you like.

I like to split the hotdogs lengthwise, without cutting them all the way through. Then put a generous amount of grated cheddar cheese down the middle of the dog and broil it under the broiler until the cheese gets real bubbly. I eat mine with a fork, and no bun, but you could easily put them in a bun and add your favorite toppings.

Well,

You can boil the dog until heated through and then split the dog in half. Add mustard, mayo, catsup and rellish. If you like onions, spread a few of those on their too. Ooooh, you will not smell good after eating it, but you will be so dang happy! Enjoy!

IMPORTANT!!!

Takes others advise about. But this is key!

After you make the hot dog, complete with toppings. Lightly wrap it in foil and to not ruin the masterpiece, and place it in the over on 400 degrees for 5-8 mins. Your taste buds will thank me. Putting shredded cheese on top before wrapping in foil is a must!

Cook the hotdog in the oven,do not boil it will be devoid of flavor, then you can cut about 3 to 4 hotdogs lenght-wise,put them between the 2 slices of bread and use whatever kind of toppings that you please like barbeque sauce, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, whatever and top with cheese.

first of all, its just a "hot dog", not a "hot dog sandwich"... you can place the hot dog in simmering water until cooked or heated through, then fry it on a saute pan with alittle oil to get a charred exterior or grill it on high heat.... favorite toppings include sauerkraut, melted cheese and chili, or just ketchup mustard and relish
