Confectioner's sugar is super-fine white sugar, used in making candy and decorations. It has a very light, powdery texture similar to flour, while regular sugar is more grainy and sandlike. While you can substitute confectioner's sugar for regular sugar in certain recipes if you have no alternative, the reverse is NEVER true. Any attempt to use regular sugar in the place of confectioner's will lead to disaster - as you've already found out.

Confectioners sugar or powdered sugar is granulated sugar that has been ground into a fine powder. Because it tends to form clumps, confectioners' sugar is augmented with about 3 percent cornstarch to keep it loose and flowing.
Confectioners sugar dissolves almost instantly, it is generally used in dishes and recipes that don't require cooking, such as icings, sauces, and some candies.

The only difference my beautiful chef is that confectioners sugar is grounded to a fine powder unlike regular sugar which is way more coarse. It's the same product, just prepared differently.

confectioner's sugar is like powder, very fine unlike regular sugar which is granulated. it's less dense, mixes well with other ingredients, much more suitable for baking. try again. good luck.

White powdered sugar. It's super fine and disolves very easily. Sometimes regular sugar doesn't completely combine and can leave a grainy texture.
