No, I think your curiosity increases as well as your desire to learn even more. I think studying actually gets easier because you have a better attention span.

When you cross 30, there should be no slowdown in studying ability. This is especially true because we have learned how to study, and so we are more efficient. We also have better concentration, so we are affected less by outside influences. It is well known that when older people (over 30) go back to school, they have generally better grades because of these factors. Also, they have been out in the world and generally have more incentive to study and achieve.

I think that we are programed to learn more quickly at a younger age, but not neccesarily with more comprehension. I started taking several community college courses after I was in my 30's and felt that I learned more at that age than I would have younger, because I was there because I wanted to learn something, not because someone said I had to be there. These were subjects that I was interested in, not something I could care less about, Like in high school, when all I could think about was girls, and partying. So I think we are probably more serious about learning after thirty, If not more mentaly able.

I can study better and easier now in my 50's than I could when I was younger, possibly because I no longer have the pressures of raising a family, succeeding in a career, etc. Possibly you have a lot on your mind, and it is difficult for you to remain focused?

The brain is a valuable tool. It doesn't magically start to rot when you get to a certain age. You just have to keep using it or it will go soft. Take care of yourself and your mind will be good well into old age or until the day you die. Good luck.

i am thirty-eight and still studying. i think of the brain like a muscle, if you work out alot than it will be in shape, if not it will start to lose it's ability to do what it does.
