Hmm...I think Epicurus may have pondered your same question back in 300BC:
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

Great to hear someone who has the experience and can let others know the injustice and pain of combat. I worked for years for a non-profit helping homeless veterans. I am not a combat veteran myself, but I served in South East Asia in 1965 and 1966. I have also walked through the Vietnam Combat tours of many good men who did walk like you did.
I just hope you keep up the good work and let these tough guys who have never been their know what is really at stake.
Your comments about "The Valley of Death" are also apropos.
I read a book by Matheny entitled, "A journey through darkness. The Spiritual Journey of the Vietnam Veteran, is the subtitle. (You can find a copy of the book on Amazon but it is getting expensive.)
From your comments about God not being their, you may get something out of that book. Matheny was a Minister or some such in Vietnam in the Army, and his duty took him into the field many times. He also started and ran one of the first Vet Centers in San Diego I think.
Anyway, keep up the good work. It is important to hear from you and other people who have been there in combat and who know it is not like anything people think about it. It is a lot worse. And your sense or beleif in God is one of the first challenges and stays with you.
How could God be their on the battlefield when the guy who just got hit was no better or worse than you are, and you know it. That simple notion of God that you take from childhood is blown so far into the ground that it feels like it was never really a possiblity.
But, there is a way. So keep up the good fight. Hope to talk to your again.

OK, here's the deal. King David, who wrote this Psalm, had a relationship with God. He knew God and God knew him. Throughout his whole life, David tried to do what was right in God's eyes.
God will not become your father and protector unless you ask him to. We are not all automatically God's children.
If you want God to care for you, you'll have to ask Him into your life first. God loves you. He sent Jesus so your sins could be forgiven and so you could, through Jesus, become a son of God.
You want to know where God was when you were walking through your own valley of death? He was never more than a prayer away.

As i read your question, i can see you have many problems and that you have had to live through something terrible. And all the things that have come to past are troubling you deeply, But don't count God out he stands beside you and walks with you, protected you from the bullets and is waiting for you to come to him so that he may help you through this troubling time, you sound like you have been at war and saw many of your friends die and if that is so you are asking how come not you,you sound like you feel that you should of been able to do more, that all the burden is yours to carry. You can't carry the weight of the world on your shoulders GOD spared you from the bullets your work here on earth is not done yet, if you seek GOD you will find him and he will guide you you must talk to him and from your heart he will help you just give him a chance .God must have a plan for you, let him guide you.I hear hidden messages in your question and it worries me. I don't know you but i can feel your pain i wish there was someway for me to help you, you will be in my prayers please seek help you can not get through this alone. You are not carring this burden alone GOD carries your burdens just talk to him he will listen. He knows our needs before we ask

You "thought" you have walked through the valley of death and back. Think again.
You said that good men are dead, does that make you a bad man?
The Bible said "if anyone lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives gererously without finding fault," (James 1:5) maybe that's what you should do.

Yeah in 96 I had advanced cancer and walked through the Valley of the Shadow of Death and my faith in God saw me through as He carried me the whole time. My faith was rewarded. I know I could have died and you are obviously still here for a reason.

I hope for the sake of your soul, you dont actually hold God accountable for this,Do you? Man I'm so sick and tired of people believing God had anything to do with crime, murder or wife leaving for best friend, anything to do with the opposite of what God stands for has got to be mentally challenged. You see one of satans biggest lies is to make you believe that god is the reason for your buddies or parents or anyone close to you died or had some other type of bad circumstance they or you went through. My grandmother died in a house fire. She raised me from a newborne child and now I feel all alone I miss her and I wish she was here, and I can't blame god for taking her.We as humans as you know deal with anger along with the rest of our emotions on a daily basis, whether it be a christian or a atheist, although atheist would say were not being a good christain for getting angry.Theres where my wisdom kicks in I know whats going on see satan is trying to question my believes my faith, but again IM HUMAN!!!!You see satan still goes to Gods throne just as he did with Job and still petitions God for our soul and God replies, you can do anything to him,but you cant kill him then satan goes off laughing thinking what can I do to break this humans spirit so he takes our friends and robs our wealth, anything he can do to make us question Gods existence he will do.He's out for one thing to destroy what god made in his own image and that is us.And he has the upperhand for he made man sin in the very beginning and now we all have to suffer. Its not fair, but you tell me one thing that is fair in life. This is all a trial for our next journey in life, how I look at it is we are catipillars and the older we get the more of a cacoon we build around us now we can choose whether to stay in that state which I would call death or we can choose to come out and become a butterfly.SOUNDS CORNY MAN I KNOW BUT THATS WHAT I BELIEVE.I know its really hard to believe theres a god in this day and age but thats why the devil does what he does his main purpose is to take as many people with him he can. With all the rules we have to follow to get in the kingdom of heaven it would be easier to just say when we die we become maggot food, but hey God wants just what the marines want, the few and the proud, nothing is fair my friend, but please dont blame god on all the negativety out there that each and everyday comes our way. They are finding proof more and more everyday that the bible and the characters are not fairytales but are real.I dont know why god chooses not to show he's real to some and then to others he makes it clear of his existence, myself I could never question his existence no matter what comes my way. I know who is testing my faith and I also know who wants me to suffer and its not god.

What are you asking? Do you want someone to prove the existence of God, or verify your opinion that He doesn't exist?
Either way, it doesn't much matter what anyone else says, does it?
It's up to YOU to come up with something better, not us.
