The Dogma of the Roman Catholic Church says that there are "mortal sins", that is sins you can commit that will cause you to lose your salvation. Many Protestant Denominations believe that once you are truly saved it will be evident in your life because you will work to live up to God's standard, but nobody's perfect, and there is no action that you can take, once you are saved that will lose your salvation. Murdering someone, which involves "malice aforethought", calls into question whether or not you have ever been truly saved. Commiting what would be refered to in the legal system as manslaughter, Killing someone through negligence or accident, does not call into question whether you have been saved. If you believe the Protestant view that you cannot lose your salvation that does not mean that you can just run around sinning all the time, you should try to the best of your ability to live a Christ-like life.

Killing someone (intentionally) is a very serious sin because you take away someone else's opportunity to progress in this life. Only very sincere repentance would provide an opportunity for forgiveness. I think the rest of you life would have to be spent doing good and helping other people.
If you suicide then you allow yourself no chance of repentance and hence no chance of salvation. If salvation were possible for suicides then we could all just kill ourself and be done with it. Why suffer needlessly. This earth experience is a test and we need to sit the exam to pass, we also need to allow others the same opportunity.

First, I think that is why God is the judge and we are not.
Moses killed someone and He will be in Heaven.
(You don't go straight to Heaven or Hell when you die: You sleep until the resurrection. Jesus says He will come and bring His reward with Him to give every man "according to his works." And the Bible says "everlasting [i.e. the result is forever] punishMENT, not everlasting punishING).
Suidcide: I personally think sometimes people have time after inflicting their wound, or while jumping, to repent. I also think some people are so mentally unhealthy when they commit suicide that they will not be held accountable for the murder of themselves--just like someone sometimes kills another person and we don't hold them accountable because of 'insanity.' But it goes back to That's Why God is the Judge, and We Are Not.
But MOSTLY, when people take their own lives or another's life, it is punishable by death.

It is very sad, but someone who willingly commits suicide does go to hell; their last action on earth was a mortal sin.
Murderers have it hard - they have to live knowing that they killed someone and mentally wounded that person's friends and family, and, if they are truly repentant, they will feel guilty and sad about that. You see, they may repent, but they will have to do penance as well - they don't get off free if they repent.
A suicide, however, is is a terrible tragedy. The "suicider" (or should I say "suicidee?") takes their own life, thereby destroying all chance for repentance and penance.
Oh, and by the way, there is a hell. If you say there isn't, you're not Christian.
It's almost as scary as it is simple, isn't it?

According to some sources, the commandment "Thou Shall Not Kill" was originally "Do Not Murder." In that translation, only murder is a sin--not killing in self defense, accidental death, etc.
The religion in which I was raised taught that the only unforgivable sin was not accepting Jesus as the Savior. This means that anyone who is truly saved will go to heaven--regardless of suicide. Some may state that those who are saved shouldn't be suicidal, but I don't buy that.
Mostly because I don't believe that a G-D would be that vengeful. I was raised with the security of the believer, and that once we have our salvation, G-D is not going to take that away from us.

Killing another for no good reason, and killing yourself with full knowledge and intent while sane are grave sins and put you at risk of hell.
Killing another in pure self-defense when no other option is available is not deserving of hell. Killing another after which you truly repent is forgivable by God and will not make hell necessary. I believe that God will be merciful to some who commit suicide because maybe they were temporarily insane or did not really understand their options for coping while they felt so hopeless.

i never could understand why suicides were considered hell bound and murders were considered forgivable.
it seems that they are both murder. if they are, they are both forgiveable.
there are preachers who won't do a suicide funeral. i think this is silly.
however, in the long run, i do think people pay for the pain and suffering they caused others by murdering and comitting suicide.
maybe god has a program, whereby they can make it up.
the only unforgiveable sin , according to jesus, is blaspheming the holy spirit(sophia/ widom). a suicide/ murder is blasphemeing the biological body only.

I don't believe in hell, but that is what you are supposed to tell someone who is considering taking a life, their own or someone else's. However, if a person is terminally ill and seeking to end their suffering, then don't burden them with your self-righteous morality trip. They have enough trouble.
As for creating loopholes in the Law of God, feel free. People always have and always will tell themselves whatever lies they need to so they can feel good about being murderers.
Have a nice day!

I think that many circumstances are around every situation. I think that you go to hell if you kill someone in hatred. I think that you might have a chance if you killed someone by accident. I think that if you are seriously mentally ill, medicated, threatened by torture, ect and you kill yourself, you may have a chance to get to heaven. Only God knows for sure what is in the hearts of men. All we can do is pray.
I want to expound on the idea of hell. The pain that our souls feel is the agony of separation from God. Choosing not to do God's will is our choice, the choice that he gives us. Our choices follow us after we die. He looks into our hearts and sees if we really want to be with him or separated from him, and if our actions have warranted separation, we will be separated from him and sent to Hell.
