Why is it that whenever I turn my back on a drink, even for a few minutes, when I come back there is a dead fruit fly in it.

Does this happen to you?

I do not know where they come from. The windows and doors are shut, and there is no fruit, food, or garbage around for them to be attracted to. It is as if they come out of the booze itself!

AND what possesses them to commit suicide in my drink?

Any insight please?!

Ah, yes ,from the dreaded "fruitfly-ruin-drinkus" speicies. The greater the sugar content or aroma immenating from the drink, will act as an attractant. I suffer from the very same thing. They seem especially active in early summer and early fall. God, I hate them.

They do seem to come from out of no where im not sure myself where they come from but i got an easy and effective way to trap em put a piece of fruit in a container streatch a piece of plastic wrap tightly secure with a rubber band poke little holes in the plastic wrap with a real sharp pencil or somthin similar not too big the flies will go in and get trapped they cant seem to find the way out.

These flies are simply attracted to fermented or sugary liquids. They tend to lay eggs in manure or garbage, so chances are the fly was somewhere gross before landing in your cocktail.... don't drink it! At a bar that I used to work at this was a real problem, leading to massive amounts of wasted liqours and wines. *sigh* what a waste of a good drink.

It's the bar you go to. I recently upgraded from one bar to another, and there's no more fruit flies in my drinks. It's all in how much the bar owner is bothered by fruit flies, and what they're willing to do to correct the problem.

For the record, the bars are two blocks away from each other.

Alcohol is nature's way of saying "the fruit's ripe, come 'n get it!" Flies are a whole lot more sensitive to it than we are...and get into places we can't...like your drink.

That is truly strange. Look to the company you are keeping and dont take your eyes off your drink. Better yet hold it in your hand the entire time and see who keeps getting close to you.

I have no idea because I don't drink. I'm 34 and have never had a drink and never will.

Good luck with your life, lush.
