Because you have volunteered to play the role of the person asking, and have invited others to be the answerers. Of course, you can sort of answer the Best Answer by posting a comment on it.

Yep-- would be great-- but then this would become a CHAT ROOM.
In many cases it is possible to Email them.
I get about 10 Emails a day from Yahoo Q&A People.
some to tell me off but -
MOSTLY to say thanks or ask further questios.

click the avatar of the anwserer. it will take you to their profile. you can get to them by awnsering their questions.
some of the profiles have an e-mail button(optional).
if there's an e-mail button you can e-mail them by clicking it, though you can't see their actual e-mail address.
about half the e-mails i've gotten from this thing are hateful.
