All the churches in my area made me feel farther away from God, so I decided that I would better serve him if I didn't go. What do you think about it? Is that a sin?

Religion is what you make of it. I dont believe that all the churches in your area push you away from God. I do believe that is the surface problem, as it was for me. I started out like you where my church didn't offer anything for me. I just felt like I didnt fit in, like God had nothing in store for me there. However, as I got deeper and deeper into it, I realized one simple thing. As I was at the end of my rope, (which is where we all truly find God..), and I wanted to scream I realized this: Church is only the meeting place for believers, not the instructions. The church is not designed to tell you what to do or what to say, that's the Bible's job. The church is only there to guide you in your journey to Christ. Church is what you make of it, and if you are in your own little world, even better. Take your bible to church and use that time as a time to be in prayer or study of the written word. If you are distracted by other people, then you dont have it down yet. Worship, pray, read, and listen to talks, but if all else fails, use it as time to further your personal relationship with Christ Jesus. I have come to this realization and it applies in other areas too. I dont like my confirmation group but I do know that I want to get confirmed in my current church so I am stuck. However, I use the time where nobody talks to me to talk to God. I read my Bible, I pray that His word reaches me no matter what. If you are feeling alone, maybe you just have to take time to pray to God that he helps you. Keep pushing on, keep going to church. If you are stuck, pick the church that GUIDES you the best, not tells you what to do. That way, you can take the pastors advice in guidance and run with it to Christ.
I hope this finds you well, God Bless
Remember, Jesus loves you no matter what, so if you use sundays to be in silent prayer even at home, its not ideal, but it doesnt mean you wont get to heaven or jesus thinks less of you.
Romans 8:1-2 "Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ, because through Jesus Christ, the law of the Spirit of life has set me free from the Law of Sin and Death."

No it is not a sin. I havent set foot in a church in more then 15 years, because of the falseness that they preached. I have found my own path to God and even do not follow a religion, I just follow God. God does not require anyone to go to a church or to follow a religion

No it isn't a sin to not go to a church that made you feel that way. However a good church is one of the best thing for a christian. We should form the body of Christ and reach out to people and make them feel loved. The church should help support you and encourage you when you fall and you should do the same if a fellow christian has fallen. It is good to have somebody to talk to when you need it. Fellowship is a very needed necessity for a christian walk. I have piercings and other people in my church have tats and they have never made us feel not welcoome.

I don't think it's a sin, a group of two or more on one accord concerning god is church.Just keep reading your bible and pray and ask god to guide you to the church home that he wants you to go to. And just remember where god wants you to go might not seem right to you but just let his will be done and trust in him he has a reason for every thing.

i don't think its a sin. I use to go to church every week but now because of my job i have to work on sundays a lot. But i try to read my bible and pray. I spent one whole year reading the bible a little bit each day all the way through. I never went to church that year and it was one of the best years i ever had. during the time i was married it was the best year of that whole portion of my life.

Been there and done that. I haven't been to church in seven years and I've never been happier. I think I'm a better person for getting away from all of the dogma and the judging and just being with God in my own way and my own time. God bless my dear, and keep listening to that little voice inside you...it won't lead you astray.

I don't think Jesus wanted his followers to go at it alone. From the beginning, Jesus inspired his followers to spend time with each other, to eat, drink, and dine. Thats why many Churches have communion. It serves as both a symbol and a realization that in Christ we are all one. In fact, in the Catholic church this communal meal is so real, Jesus is present in the bread and wine. It is called the Eucharist or thanksgiving.

Not at all.Jesus never said 'thou shall go to church'
Church is for fellowship, to learn and to worship.
have you really been to every church in your area?
If you have,Its not your fault your area churches lack the spitituial wholeness you need.
Try organizing a bible study witha group of Christian friends.
Pray about it and you never know, God may open a door for you.

i haven't been in chuch for 10 years or more.
even when i went i never felt moved to join one.
the church of today isn't the church of jesus and his original followers anyway.
when a movement gains hundreds of thousands of adhereants it becomes political and therefore corrupt.
don't waste your godly deeds going through the church.
take away the middle man.
the church has been apostate since the council of nicea, first with the catholics; and then with the protestants.
