It means the deal is sealed. Once you mail the check, you've paid and you can't get it back. So when the "checks in the mail" what ever you have been working on is finalized.

>This expression was coined about 50 years ago. It seems three European gentlemen were hunting in the Ural Mountains. One of the hunters was German, one was Czechoslovakian and the third was Austrian.

They had been gone for 5 days past their expected return and their respective families had reported them missing.

The authorities in the hunting area (Russia) immediately started a search for them and very quickly found their hunting camp. The camp was in a shambles, the tents were all torn to shreds and there was blood everywhere.

They found the body of the German immediately and it was obvious that he had been mauled, killed and partially eaten by a large animal.

The only animal (in the area) capable of such mayhem was the Russian Brown Bear, so they started to hunt the area to try to locate the animal and kill it before anyone else met the same fate and hoped to find the 2 remaining hunters during the search.

They weren't even half a kilometer from the camp when they discovered two bears! One was a male and the other a female. Both were sound asleep, their muzzles were covered in blood and their bellies were round and obviously full from a recent large meal.

The searches immediately shot the bears and cut open the stomach of the female to ascertain if these were, indeed, the animals that had attacked the hunter's camp and killed the hapless hunters. Upon examination of the first bear's stomach contents they found human body pieces which were so badly chewed that they (at first) couldn't identify which hunter it was.

After further extraction and examination of the evidence they discovered the remains of an Austrian driver's license.

The investigators then realized the awful truth when one of the younger members of the team shouted "The Czech is in the male!"<

It mostly means that the person is lying....like when a creditor calls and the person says the check's in the mail ( just to get them off their back, even though it couldn't be further from the truth)

It's hard to get checks to go anywhere. And it sounds better than the Hungarians in the mail.

It is the third biggest lie. It means, I've sent you your payment, now leave me alone.

The first biggest lie? I won't put it in all the way.

The second biggest lie? Of course I will still respect you in the morning.
