straightening irons aren't as bad as hot combs, theyre hot, but not seventh layer of hell hot.

The trick here is to use the large round curling irons for the sections near the roots...this gives body to the top of the hair while also evening out the top area from curls or kinks. Then the straightening iron (flat iron) does the rest of the job and you don't have to go too close to the roots.

If you have a thin iron, there's no problem in going right to the roots...even the larger irons will do this...it's all a matter of getting used to using them.

The area you have to watch out for is when you run the iron through the hair and the hair is still hot and you touch it :0 oowwweeee.

It's also wise to use a no frizz cream such as Thermasilk specifically for hot iron use...works very well.

They shouldn't, I don't think the actual plates of the iron get that close to the scalp(enough to straighten all the hair though). Because the combs are thinner they're able to go right against the scalp. You should be safe with the iron

It only burns if you linger too long at the root. If you apply the hot iron or comb carefully and quickly then you will avoid burns. The reason it burns is because the heat creates steam and the steam can singe your scalp.

It only burns if you burn the scalp. Now if you grease ur scalp before you start straightin your hair ( recommended) it may be hot and sizzle but looks great. if your the one thats straighting ur hair you know whats enough. Remember beauty is pain

Ever notice how thin some older women's head of hair is?
Thats because of accumulated damage - most of it from perms.
Chemical damage. Is it worth it?
