I still do it as an adult, it just evaporates. Why was it such a big deal?

I guess I should point out that I grew up in Florida, where all the floors under all the refridgerators are concrete. No mold. No rot.

What happens if you kick an ice cube, but it deflects off of the refridgerator and goes elsewhere on the kitchen floor. You don't notice that it didn't go under the refridgerator. It melts, and the next day you or someone else slips on it, falls, and breaks a bone or worse. All of this because you didn't want to pick up an ice cube.

Maybe it melts and makes a mess under the fridge. They were just trying to teach you the right thing to do. Kicking ice cubes under the fridge instead of picking them up is just pure laziness!

Because by the time the water evaporates it may have caused mold or weaken the floor under the refrigerator. (The floor under the fridge is NOT always finished.)

Because you are being lazy. There is a possibility of other types of water damage despite Florida and concrete. Suck it up, pick it up, and wake up. This is an easy fix. Save the parent arguments for something that really matters.

my dad told me it could ruin the motor in the refridgerator because the water would get into it and plus it might crack the concreat. Just pick up the ice cub what is the big deal about that?

because..the ice cubes will melt and theyll have a water mess comming out from under the fridge! and theres electrical things down there that shouldnt be near water

Because they do not evaporate. They soak in to the floor and make it rot. Then one day you slam the fridge door and the vibration causes the floor to collapse and your fridge will drop to the basement. Then no more ice in your drink, ever again.

my guess is that it's just not an appropriate thing to do- I would do the same with my kids. Is it really that difficult to pick the cube up and throw it in the sink? ;o)
