First make sure you get all the condiments. Ketchup, mustard, ect. Then start thinking about the type of foods you eat. Any spices you might want to cook with. Make a mock food plan. Sit down and write out 5 different meals. Atleast 5, if not more. That's the main course, and any sides. All this will vary greatly depending on your culture and how healthy you eat. Such as vegan, ect. Then you also need some other things. Crackers, drinks. Do you drink lots of water, or soda, or juice? How much do you go thru in the time between shopping trips?
One nice way of getting started is to take your Fiance with you grocery shopping and have him pick out the things he likes too.
Trust me. It won't take long before you have grocery shopping down to an art and you can start getting really picky and reading all the labels and worrying about vitamins, minerals, and what bad chemicals are in the foods. lol.

Go out together or make a list of the things you guys like to eat. My fiance and I pretty much can go food shopping one to two times a month (with a quick run in here and there). There are certain things we both know that we want to keep in the fridge. He's gotta have sausage and Life cereal. I can't live without pretzels and the makings of grilled ham and cheese. If you drink, keep a case in the fridge. When I first moved out of my parents house I was overwhelmed at how many BASIC things I needed like sugar and flour- but once you buy those they last a while so its really the things you eat regularly that you need to shop for. What do you 2 like to eat?

Most of us start by going to the supermarket and walk up and down the isles putting things that look good into the cart. If you're a planner you may want to figure out what you want your meals to consist of and make a list.
If you like fresh good and have a supermarket close by, just stop there and get whatever you're going to eat that day, or maybe some for the next day too. It is very difficult to plan a whole week's worth of meals in advance unless you want to eat a lot of frozen foods.
Also if you're going to be the one doing the grocery shopping, it wouldn't hurt to ask your fiance if there's anything specific he wants to eat or drink. If he really doesn't care then try to feed him healthy stuff.

Nobody is born with that knowledge, we all have to learn it. And if your fiance is disapointed, tell him he can stock the fridge his damn self. Here's some ideas:
Condiments: ketchup, mayo, mustard, bbq sauce, whatever else u guys like.
Bread, cheese, milk, meats, eggs, pastas, juices, veggies and fruits (canned, frozen, fresh),
things that are quick and easy: lean pockets, homestyle bakes, jiffy muffin mixes, tyson chicken varieties, pot pies, rices (they have lots of kinds even some that come in flavors and you just microwave right in the package) There are also lots of prepackaged meals like stirfrys, breakfast skillets, etc.
Yogurt, cottage cheese, popcorn, chips, fruit snacks, salt/pepper/other spices, olive oil for cooking, granola bars, other snacks. Try going down every aisle in the grocery store and looking at everything. You will start to learn what you and he like, and find things to get.
Also dont forget: trash bags, household cleansers, can opener, pizza cutter, mixing spoons, measuring cups, pans, mixing bowls, toilet paper, bathroom scrubber, paper towels, vacuum cleaner and bags, light bulbs, things like tylenol or advil, pepto bismol or tums, cleaning rags,
hope that gets you a good start. you will figure things out as you go along. its just like being a parent, you think that your parents know everything, but they had to learn as they went along, and so will you. if your fiance gives you crap and expects you to be perfect, then hes a jerk

Just get some fruit like apples and make sure you have lots of peanut butter on hand. That way if he is hungry is always something he can eat. And get some casserole recipes and they make food go further on the pocketbook. Hamburger helper is a good starter food if you're not used to cooking.

Make a list of things you and your fiancee like to eat. Definately eggs, water, fruit, lunch meat, milk and other things you all enjoy. Don't worry it gets easier as time goes on. Also, ask mom to give you some pointers. Leave room for leftover containers. Good Luck!

First thing you do, is make a menu for the week. Start with breakfast and on and on. Buy the items you will need for your menu and think about the things you will probably take for granted...salt, pepper, catsup, mustard so on and so on. This should get you started. example: breakfast: waffles. Well, you need to buy the stuff to make waffles from scratch if you do that, or the frozen ones, but then you need to remember, butter, syrup, orange juice to have with it, maybe bacon etc.,etc.

first, get the essentials. like bread, butter, milk, oj.
do you know how to cook? if not, ask your mom or grandma to show you. keep things in the frig/freezer that you would normally eat. or talk to your mom, and ask her to make a list out for you of things she normally keeps in the fridge. get some cookbooks. and ask your mom for some easy recipes. watch cooking shows. go on some websites for recipes. hope that helps, good luck and have fun shopping.

I guess it depends on what you like to eat. Milk, eggs, cheese, salad stuff, fruit, juices. Fo the freezer, meats, quick dinners like lean cuisine.
I would get some things for a pantry like canned tuna or chicken, mayo, mustard, catchup, salad dressings,
Why don't you ask your Mom to go shopping with you?
