Cigarettes will make you more anxious. Cigarettes cause your heart rate to increase, along with your blood pressure. It's like getting a mini-rush that won't last long. The "coming down" part just worsens your depression.
Good luck and if you are depressed, please get some help asap.

cigarettes is just an excuse. they can actually make the situation worse just think about it wonder if you run out of money and can't get those cigarettes then you have another problem to add to the problem you already have. cigarette smoking is a habit. look up. yeah sometimes you will get anxious if you can't get that smoke when you feel it is needed

I've never heard of them helping in any way. I know a lot people say it calms them and mellows them out, but I think that has a lot more to do with the activity of smoking then the cigarettes themselves. I do think they can make you more anxious. Once you get addicted you'll feel like you need them and really it's an unhealthy crutch for your depression.

Cigarettes will help with depression while you're smoking them, but not after you're done smoking. When you're smoking, you are thinking of stuff and enjoying yourself, but later you feel crappy because you just realized you reduced your life by a few minutes, and the depression will come back anyways.

Well, seeing as I suffer from depression, and also smoke, I'd say they make it worse. Cigs are so expensive here, I worry I can't afford them, and when I don't have them I go crazy. I think it's a terrible combination.

Smoking gets you almost nowhere, except it gives you cancer, bad breath, harms people around you, and unhealthy gums. Just do me a favor and don't even consider it. And I'm not sure about the whole depression thing...

they are all around no good. Bananas help with depression, as do other fruits high in potassium. A banana a day keeps the shrink away!
