Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox: Varicella-zoster. Most adults had chicken pox as a kid, and the virus remains in your body forever. Usually it remains dormant.
We don't understand why the virus sometimes becomes active again, usually in adults over the age of 50. When it does so, you get a painful blistering rash, usually on your torso. The pain can be pretty bad, and last for weeks or even months.
But that's a worst case. The older you are the longer the pain typically persists. Being younger, you should be fine in no time.
There are treatments for shingles, but they aren't perfect. You'll likely have to just tough it out.
There is a vaccine for shingles coming out soon (just as there has been one for chicken pox for 7 or 8 years or so), but it is only recommended for people over 60.

The shingles is an after effect of the chicken pox, you can get it weeks after you have the chicken pox or up to a decade. Shingles can't make you blind, they're just blisters and they go away in a few weeks. Just don't bother them, they're harmless! It's nothing to get scared about, armpit hair is more scary then the shingles.

You can consider shingles to be the adult form of chicken pox, assuming you didnt have chicken pox as a child and were never vaccinated. You'll be fine.

my best friend had that a few yrs back. All i know is that it's really contageous in the beginnning and stress can cause it. I heard it can cause some nerve damage depending on the severity. My best friend has spots on her back (area she caught it) that have no feeling after catching shingles.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken pox. Beyond that, I dunno. Check out webmd.
