My parents found all this sh*t in my room, like empty beer cans, some pills, a journal that I wrote a bunch of bad stuff in, etc. They grounded me from basically everything except air, food and water. The problem is that basically none of the stuff they found was mine! I can't tell them that though because they don't believe me unless I tell them which friend had all that stuff and I don't want to rat out my friends. What should I do?

The journal was obviously mine, and the only stuff I write in it are like huge life-changing events, so it was pretty bad, but other than that, I really didn't do much.

Why should I be grounded for hanging out with a "person like that?" Personally, I think you should be able to hang out with anyone you want to as long as you can maintain your own goals and personality. It's a little immature to ignore everyone that's not like you.

just tell your parents the truth if you don't want to suffer the punishment that it's not your fault at all. But if you want to sacrifice yourself then keep your mouth shut.

Unless you're paying rent, it's not really your room. You're grounded because your parents care about you and want to keep you safe. It really doesn't matter whether it was your stuff or you were holding it for someone else, because in the real world, if the police catch you "holding" something for a friend, it's as good as your's. I agree about your journal, I kept one and I encourage my daughters to keep one as well. I would only read it if I thought they were in serious danger type trouble, and I would never hold what I read over their heads. Also, your parents are probably trying to help you to understand that you are basically the company that you keep. If your friends are dirty,,,,,,I think you get the point!!

You just have to take it. At this point your parents will not believe that the pills and stuff are not yours unless your friends actually confesses to them and possibly not even then. I don't know what you wrote in your journal but it sounds like it might be enough on its own to really upset your parents.

Just take your punishment. If you stay grounded like you're supposed to and consent to drug tests and searches and stuff, it'll probably be over by Christmas. If you fight it, you'll still be at war when you're 40. Next time don't let your friends keep that kind of stuff at your place.

Have you thought about the consequences your parents may pay if for some reason the police should be called in because their parents say your parents are contributing to delinquents? What kind of friends do you have if they are willing to be so inconsiderate as to drink and pop pills at your house. I'd say they are pretty inconsiderate to you and your parents.Sounds like they are using you and you are allowing it. You will have to gain your parents trust again and it could be quite awhile. After things have cooled down and you've had a chance to do some serious thinking sit down & talk to your parents. Ask them to trust you again and be responsible. As far as your parents reading your journal - personally - they were wrong. I never read my sons journals. They needed someplace to vent and tell their personal thoughts to. Good luck to you.

Yeah, OK. Have you ever heard the saying, "A man is known by the company he keeps." Or the one about lying down with dogs and getting up with fleas? Maybe this is the best thing that could have happened to you. Take it as a learning experience! Alot of people never figure out how to really live life and you have this unique opportunity to start over.
The question isn't what to do about your parents, it's what to do with this chance.

Do the Right Thing!!

You should be glad you have parents who love you enough to do everything possible to keep you from making poor choices until you have matured enough to make sensible choices. IF the beer cans and pills were not yours, then you've proven you aren't choosing appropriate friends. Rat the person out IF the items are not yours; you will be doing yourself and your "friend" a favor! Then you need to listen to your parents and make some positive changes in your life.

The ole "its not mine" is hard to prove when its in your possesion, or in your case in some place private like your room.

It is also so common and excuse used by people that get in trouble that it has become a joke.

What should you do with your parents? Be glad they are looking out for you. Learn your lesson, stay away from the bad people that are bringing you down and do something that will make your parents proud of you.

You have the absolute right to select your own friends. However, as long as you are living in the house with your parents, you do not have the right to invite those friends into your parents home to do things there that your parents would find repulsive---like drinking beer and popping pills. If you can, REVERSE ROLES WITH YOUR PARENTS and then, imagine how YOU would feel if YOUR own son had chosen to be with someone who littered YOUR home with these "repulsive" items and written about how his relationship with this person CHANGED his life? Would that build your trust in YOUR son? Your parents will stop grounding you when you show them you are on their side and are willing to make choices that make YOU look GOOD. I was told by my parents that "association leads to assimilation". Best wishes.

If parents love their children, they will not be nationalistic, they will not identify themselves with any country; for the worship of the State brings on war, which kills or maims their sons. If parents love their children, they will discover what is right relationship to property; for the possessive instinct has given property an enormous and false significance which is destroying the world. If parents love their children, they will not belong to any organized religion; for dogma and belief divide people into conflicting groups, creating antagonism between man and man. If parents love their children, they will do away with envy and strife, and will set about altering fundamentally the structure of present-day society.

Come on... I dont believe that you havent tried the beer or maybe the pills too. I mean you hang out 24/7 with your friends and not once were you tempted to take one pill??? If it wasnt yours then take a drug test..thats the only way you can make them believe you...

"Tell me who your friends are..and I'll tell you who you are"...Have you heard of this??

I'll tell you what you can do with your parents, you could love them and be glad they care enough to take action.Something I learned a long time ago was people judge you by the company you keep whether you like it or not and your folks obviously love you or they would let you do what ever you wanted.
