Yes. You can send in a W4 to the state, signed and establishing that you are exempt from the withholding. It is not social security it is with-holding tax.

no there is no way to collect a regular check from a regular employer without ss being taken out. My mom works at a hospital where they have there own retirement plan and don't pay into social security but they still deduct money from her check for that retirement plan so either way its no. as for person that mentioned the exempt from withholding it does not apply to social security only to federal income tax which is different than social security tax and you have to meet the criteria that would make you exempt from that withholding.

Not if you are an employee.
You can reduce the amount of FICA paid if you are an independent contractor getting paid corp-to corp. Then you can deduct your expenses and pay FICA on actual Salary you pay yourself.
