The old fashion armies are not the way it is done now. Big militaries seem to attract terrorism, particularly when the large power is going around messy with other people and trying to tell them what they should think an feel.
In reality, I think the nation state may have seen its time come and go. It seems that coalitions or extra national organizations are needed to bargain with the rest of the world.
I think that maybe the drawing power of the World Trade Organization and other extra-legal environmental attempts are organizations that go beyond the Nation State as the essential bargaining element. Frankly I am not worried about this. I think it is the way to the future. Countries need to learn how to get along and how to get things done.
The essential truth is that the earth is subdivided and chopped up and claimed almost completely. We are one big family all crowded into this wonderful small planet. But we have not claimed our interdependence as of yet.
The air we breath, and the air that china breaths is one small atmosphere for all humans to share. We do not have a choice in this matter. We will share one way or another.
If multi-national organizations are the way to go to achieve peaceful resolutions to our problems, then what are we waiting for?

Seems that way, the choice of a new generation and all that. Why? Because if all the terrorists in the world lined up together on one side of a huge gigantic battlefield and the USA's military lined up on the other side, we would totally destroy them. Because they can't possibly beat us in conventional warfare, they are resorting to a type of guerrilla warfare that has worked since the days of ancient Greece. Remember, even Francis Marion in the American Revolution resorted to socalled terrorist activities, as did George Rogers Clark. Remember, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Terrorism is not new at all. Terrorism is simply the use of brutal, often homicidal fear tactics to gain political goals or soco/economic demands.
I see terrorism as an obstacle to avoid but I don't see it as the great war of the new millenium. Basically what you have is a group of people willing to use wanton destruction and murder tactics to get the attention they want.
These people know they can't defeat America or Israel, but they keep doing what they are doing because they have a blind, ignorant belief that eventually their tactics will help them gain ground.
They are losing horribly against their enemies. For every 1 of U.S. they kill, we kill over 100 of them. Not only that but their villages get flattened and their people (who aren't terrorists) get molested.
To me, terrorism is not a war, but its a conflict that is costing as much as a War usually would. It is a waste of our time, energy, resources and lives.
The problem is the threat is widespread. Basically Islamic fundamentalists are everywhere. They are in America, Europe, The middle East and Africa. It doesn't do much for me for the news media to try and seperate Muslims and terrorists since background research into Islam shows they are one in the same since Allah explicity commands every muslim who believes in Allah and hopes for reward in the afterlife to fight the Jihad.
Basically, we are dealing with a large group who are indocrinated with Islamic Fundamentalist views and because of the rampant poverty, illiteracy and lack of oppourtuniteis in their lands - feel they have nothing to lose should they be required to fight and die in the Holy War. I
In that sense, I believe that if the world could somehow improve economic conditions in those places and rid the people of the theocratic autharitarianism, they might have a chance to coexist peacefully with the civilized world. Until then, those people will keep fighting America and they will keep losing.
Its basically ...
U.S. vs. Them
