living rooms are not supposed to have ceiling lights in them. what most good builders did though was to wire one of the wall plugs near the entrance to the room with a switch so that a lamp plugged into that plug will turn on by switch so you can at least walk into the room and find the other lamps you have placed around the room. In addition to that lamp we use Torchieres to uplight the room. and additional table lamps for reading or task lights.

overstock.com has some great Torchieres with great shipping charges with robust packaging.

Unfortuneately... there is none. The only thing that even comes close is wire mold or some type of swagg chain... which means running the wires on the outside of the drywall.

There may be ways to snake wires into certain areas... but you need very long drill bits and most likely you'd have to cut some holes in the wall or ceiling.

A hanging lamp with a chain. Use a plant hanging hook to hang it on, run the chain over to the nearest corner (might need a couple hooks to get to the corner), down the wall, to the outlet. If the chain isn't long enough, you might need a short extension cord. I might add that the chain holds the plug-in cord for the lamp.

Use a spot type light to "uplight" the ceiling and bounce light down into the room. That is no doubt how the room was lighted originally.

Call an electrician.

You want to be sure that it's done properly by somebody with experience. Otherwise it will be a fire hazard.

You don't want to risk burning your house down to save a couple hundred dollars, do you?
