Pet stores sell enzyme based cleaners which are meant to take the smell out. The sooner you use them after the accident (silly cats) the more likely they are to remove all the smell.

To keep the cat out of a room you could try cat away products which smell bad to a cat..also available at any pet store. But, spraying a whole room down with that is the only way it would possibly keep the cat out (you could just try spraying down a large area around where the cat pees to see if he goes back to just using the box), even then some cats just don't care and will go in the room anyway. Cats hate stuff stuck to their feet. So you could put a strip of sticky tape in the entry to the room....use however many strips necessary to be further than how far the cat can jump....but then you'd have to jump over it too.

If the cat is going somewhere other than its box, it may have something wrong with it or maybe you just don't keep the litter box as clean as s/he wants. I got one of those litter maid boxes for that very reason and now the cats use it without a problem (except for when one had bladder issues, then he peed everywhere...but that's fixed now).

Things I have done for the smell that seem to work are
1) spraying vinegar on the spot then soaking it up the paper towels
2) Arm & Hammer Carpet & Room Pet Fresh works well

The vinegar is really good for things that can be washed the the washing machine.

same answer than TY.
My cat pee on my couch, and only vinegar could erase the smell. Do not use any amoniac product to clean you carpet, the cat will like it and will think it's where he must pee... Vinegar can help to repelled him.

My cat cannot go into my room... But apart from closing the door, I don't have any solution...

good luck !

I have often thought that putting a bit of bleach in the water of a steam cleaner and cleaning the carpet would do it. Though I've never had to try it.

Best Wishes!!

Believe it or not vinegar is the best thing I have found. Honestly nothing takes it out to my particular liking. But a mist of vinegar from a spray bottle does neutralize it. As far as keeping them out of a room. No idea if you do get the solution to that I'd be amazed.

If you get to it soon enough, you can clean up wet urine, douse with an antibacterial. Once dry, use a pet odor neutralizer to saturate the area; I found that Petzyme works well.

If it has gotten to the pad...you are SOL.

first clean with carpet cleaner, then use one of the cat urine sprays that have a bacteria in them that supposedly kills the odor. and when thats dry, spray with one of the cat off type sprays that they sell at petsmart . good luck
