I bought my truck knowing it had some damage on the roof. The paint is now starting to peel off and there is also some rust. I currently have full coverage with $100 deductibles. When my insurance agent was taking pictures, he didn't even look at my roof. Would you submit a claim? If yes, what would say caused the damge?

Thanks for your input to all who responded. There are a few who didn't understand my question. The question wasn't, "What would you like me to do?". It was, "What would you do?". You know who you are. Mellow out people!

This sounds dangerously like insurance fraud. Car insurance does not cover your paint job unless it was damaged by an accident of "act of god" (such as hail or hitting a deer). Good luck not going to jail. I would say acid rain did it.

I would not. It's extremely easy for trained individuals to determine whether or not the damage happened as you said it did. Besides, it's dishonest. Is that the kind of person you want to be?
It probably doesn't cost that much to have a truck roof painted, since the surface area just isn't that big. Take the high road. It will pay off in the end.

Insuranse fraud= 5 to 10 in the pen and I don't mean days or mos. Besides, you think you are the only one in the world with peeling paint and rust? Give me a break!!!!! Get up there and sand the rust off and wet and the paint and go to a body shop and get them to spray it for about $100 . That sure beats having Bubba for a cell mate for the next 5-10 yrs

Go ahead and lie. It's only insurance fraud. Which by the way is a felony. With any luck they will lock you up for a few years. It should give you time to think about your personal values. It's people like you that make auto insurance so un-Godly expensive.

That's insurance fraud. The adjuster didn't look at it because he instantly recognized it as old, pre-existing damage. He's a trained professional; don't insult his intelligence. It will only bring fraud charges against you.
I suppose that you could tell him the you sneeze a lot and your boogers ate through the paint. At least he'd get a laugh out of it and not take you seriously.

please file a claim and wait for your non-renewal notice or your drop notice and see if you can find insurance you can afford again. I doubt you will go to jail for this but your rates will go up because all insurance companies share information and you will be put on the high risk list.

Most insurance does not cover rust. Collison, theft, accidents, yes. Rust, no.
