I was wondering if there is any type of Shampoos, that do not require a trip to the salon, that I could use, I have heard that there are shampoos out there for this, but most are sold at salons, and I live in a foreign country, but am making a trip to the USA this weekend, so I'm hoping I can pick something up and bring it back with me. I don't know if it makes a difference but our pool is a salt water pool, and because of that, we don't have the "green" effect that you do with chorinated pools... but it still dries her hair out beyond belief, I had to cut it short (just above shoulder length) just to be able to put a comb through it, and she was DEVASTATED, she LOVES long hair! I have been better about getting her to wash her hair almost as soon as she gets out of the pool, but I want to be sure I'm doing what's best for her hair. I would like her to be able to grow it out if she wants to.

She HAS a swim cap, but getting her to wear it is impossible, she wears it for swim lessons only, the other 6 days of the week I can FORGET about it... we live in a country where it is pool season YEAR round, so she swims practically ALL the time, and sometimes spends ALL day outside in the pool, that probably only makes matters worse!

I would try any deep condtioning treatment twice a week at first then once a week to keep it under control.

ALSO, before she gets into the pool, she needs to wet her hair and comb conditioner through it. This will help protect it. I know you think it will wash out, but I swear this works.

I am also a swimmer and I have very long, highlighted hair. There is alot you can do to help. First, she will need to condition the heck out of her hair. I also recommend using a reconstructor. Then, before she swims, she should wet her hair (not in the pool), and put on a conditioner made for swimming.

Goldwell Ultra Rich range is wonderful... I highly recommend their
Definition Moisture Intesnse Moisture Repair Serum and well as the Ultra Rich Care Treatment.

The other products that are wonderful is a brand called Phyto. They make a range caled Phyto Sun. I use Phyto now, but I have to credit the Goldwell products for getting my hair back in shape after a highlighting/chlorine nightmare.

Also, it is a good idea to rinse your hair after swimming as well and wash it as soon as possible after swimming.
Good Luck!

You might want to try a leave-in conditioner on your daughter's hair. There's one you can find in most any store that sells hair products and online called Infusium 23 that works really well (and it comes in both a spray bottle and a regular bottle if you want to buy your own). There are at least three kinds of leave-in conditioners to choose from, as well as other moisturizing products in their line that you might be interested in.

As for the leave-in conditioner, you should have her spray a liberal amount on her hair right before she goes swimming (it will help protect her hair while she swims) and when she's done washing her hair after swimming. That should help give her back the moisture it needs.

Hope this helps. Good luck! :)

p.s. - If it's any consolation, my mother's a hairdresser. So yeah, this advice should be pretty solid - lol.

Try to get hair a good clarifying shampoo and conditioner. Matrix is a good brand and Nexxus has an excellent one that I uses at the Beauty Salon either way I have use it both. It removes buidup and chlorine. After swimming I make sure that she shampoo and use conditioner to detangle the ends. Conditioner should only be applied on the ends since most of the damage is concentated on the ends of our hair.

I recommend Redken All Soft Conditioner. It has had excellent reviews from users with dry or damaged hair. The biggest tip is to use A LOT of conditioner. Conditioner rehydrates your hair, so it is very important that it is used often. For shampoo you can try Nexxus Assure Replensihing Nutrient Shampoo (found in hair salons). Good luck :D

Shampoo once, then rinse and shampoo once more.
Leave the conditioner on for 2 - 3 minutes before rinsing, make sure she has enough.

I know that using a swim cap may be hard to find and old fashion, but they work.

i have a friend who goes to the beach daily, and the salt water is hard on her hair also. she uses this conditioner from a company called h2o plus--the "Sea Plankton Restructuring Conditioner"

she loves it and she hasn't had a problem with her hair since she's been using it.
