Give your extra veggies from the garden to a food bank such as the Salvation Army this year? I saw them asking for garden perishables on TV. I will again this year because I could not possible eat all that is in my garden.
Thanks... ;) (I'm not sure if all places take garden perishables in the summer.)

I think giving them to a shelter is a super idea too.

You can actually go to some food banks and they will give you seeds and then you can grow food to give back to them. It is such a great thing to do. Good for you!!! Fresh vegetables are often the most expensive thing for people to buy. If we really want people to eat healthy we should lower the cost through government subsidy or something.

Well not to the Salvation army, there simply isn't one near our little farming town within easy driving distance.
We do have a unwritten, un coordinated, non red tape way to distribute our extra abundance from God.
We bring it to church with us before service on Sunday morning and SUnday evening and Wednesday evenings. Anyone can grab a bag of whatever is there, no thoughts or paperwork regarding need or non need.
If you want some of what is there , you may have it. No one would ever know if you needed it to get through the week or if it was a treat for yourself. No self conciousness to worry about and works very well.
You could also take some and deliver it to shut ins, who would also get a much needed visit out of the deal.
For us in a very small town, it works well, just wish the larger towns would do it this way and people wouldnt have to feel so poorly about needing things and having to prove that they need it.

actually we don't give them to the Salvation Army. We give things to the homeless shelters here. When my brother got married and had leftover food, and I mean a lot of leftovers, we took them to the homeless shelter for them to pass out things. They thanked us and it gave the people there a little something more. It also made them realize that there are still good people in the world that do care.

Hi Moky
Maybe some of your neighbors would like to have some fresh vegies from the garden. This will also hel in establishing good relations with your neighbors also. You sound like a sweet wpman o you probably already have a good relationship with them. Keep up the good work!

Forget the veggies. The food banks need non-perishables.

I just recommended this to someone on here the other night that had too much zucchini. Thank you for suggesting it openly like that. I was in a position a few years ago when I needed some help for a short while and now I like to give back.
God Bless.

I would NOT trust the people here in the food bank.. Yes.. they want vegetables but for themselves only. I would want to make sure that the needy gets the food and there is NO way of knowing that.
