What are you supposed to do with them? Prop them up in a corner in the house?

i m a hindu and hindus believe in burning of a deadbody. but i know a fitting reply 2 ur question.
1. Components of human body present in the soil
Elements that are present in the human body are present in lesser or greater quantity in the soil. Hence it is more scientific to bury a dead body, as it easily gets decomposed and mixed in the soil.
2.Surrounding land becomes fertile
When dead bodies are buried, the surrounding land becomes fertile and it improves the environment.
3.Economical
Burying dead bodies is very cheap. It hardly costs any money.

now the real answer 2 ur question
4.Same land can be utilised for burying another body
The land used for burying a dead body can be reutilised for burying another body after a few years since the human body gets decomposed and mixed in the soil.

Why they're burried?

To prevent their body/corpes from being savaged by animals. It's a dignity thig.

How much space needed?

Three feet wide and 7 feet in depth per person. But if everyone died simultaneously, then there'll be no one to bury you, right? Cos the Buddhist/Hindus would just burn you. But logically if they all die simultaneously it's probably the end of the world.

Not much I would think cause then who would bury them. If they have no family to bury them because all of them are dead, then it will be left to the state, and most likely the state would just pile them in stacks like wood and burn them. Might make a small mountain or two from the ashes...but that is all.

Because to God we belong, and to God we shall return.. :)

about space... :

i think u should say.. how much population decrease will occur if all christians and muslims die simultaneously.. :D

Here's is an interesting fact:

Of the entire world's population:
Christians 33.03% (of which Roman Catholics 17.33%, Protestants 5.8%, Orthodox 3.42%, Anglicans 1.23%), Muslims 20.12%, Hindus 13.34%, Buddhists 5.89%, Jews 0.28% .. estimated as of 2004 ! (source: CIA site, so can be trusted, link is given below)

as you can see Christians+muslims > 50% of entire world's population..as of 2004... :)

Moreover, according to "world Alamanc book of facts 2006", Islam is the fastest growing religion of 235% followed by christianity 46%, You can get "Alamanc book of facts" in any book store.. ex. chapters, or even u can look for it in wall-mart ! The book contains many amazing facts ! (link about the book is given below in wikipedia)

so by now (2006).. my guess is.. both comprises roughly around 60% of entire world's population..:)

Burying roughly 60% of the world's population.... well ... u will need another planet to bury all the dead bodies.. how about the moon ;)

Yeah easily. Burying doesnt equate to respecting like maximum persons right here declare. Like maximum rituals its in basic terms yet another ritual, and the which skill can wander off interior the festivities. however I dont think of its because of the fact they suspect their bodies are going to get resurrected. however i'm curious to comprehend how burrying is undesirable for the ecosystem. shouldnt the decomposing physique be good fertiliser for the soil? anyhow, the zorastrian guidance is in basic terms too culturally particular to be imported to different areas of the international. Like interior the southeast asia, they arnt that many scavenger birds. So the bodies dont tend to get eaten, and decay. yet another concern is the shortcoming of area for parsee cemetaries. yet sure. ultimately each and every thing will return to the ecosystem besides.

Burying is in conformity with the law of nature: The body will disintegrate normally and the natural elements will return to dust in the best conditions.
The earth is large enough to supply food for 150 billion people and there is still sufficient land for burials. Starvation and other social problems are due to bad behaviour and poor organization of human societies.
We all have to learn to live in peace with the world and with ourselves through our loving and worshipping God.

Grave yards won't take up that much space, ashes take up considerably less, but in many religions that is not an option. In some religions burning the body will guarentee the person goes to hell.

it started with the belief that one day, they will return to walk the earth again, you know, live again and be with their family once more. that's why they're bodies are interred into a "resting place". as to your 2nd question, the probability of that happening is virtually nil. perhaps it'll only happen if a catastrophe of epic proportions happen (e.g. countries nuking each other). but it won't be just muslims and christians, hindus, shiks, jews, buddhists, atheists and the rest of the planet too.
