Tylenol will help a bit. Try putting Oil of Cloves right on the area that hurts. This will reduce the pain too. There are some over-the-counter toothache gels that you might try too. They are usually next to the floss and toothpastes. As you already know, a toothache means that the nerve is being irritated in some way. You either have a cavity or an infection. Eventually the pain will go away without seeing a dentist but by then the nerve and the tooth will have died. It's better to get it treated in the early stages. BElieve me I know, I've done it the other way and now I'm in for some horrendous dental bills to fix things I let go too long

Advil or Tylenol are about the only ways that you can attempt to get rid of a toothache at home. Sometimes taking antibiotics will help, if there is infection. I know that you were probably hoping for some great cure-all but there really isnt one. You need to find out what is causing the tooth to hurt and only a dentist who has an x-ray of the tooth can tell you that.

Depends on the type of toothache.

If it's an occasional ache when you eat hot or cold thing then it is still reversible and a filling will sort it. You need to see a dentist within the next week or two.

If it's constant then the tooth is dying and will need either the nerve removed or the tooth removed. You need to see the dentist in the next day or two.

If it's throbbing, then it's an abscess, you need to see a dentist today.

Toothaches should always be professionally treated by a dentist. But here is some teeth pain relieve you can do for now:

1. rinsing with warm salt water
2. using dental floss to remove any food particles
3. taking aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol) to relieve pain
4. applying a cold (ice pack) compress against the outside of the cheek; do not use heat.
5. using clove oil (Syzygium aromaticum) to numb the gums

See a dentist ASAP to determine the underlying cause of the toothache.

oil of cloves supposed to help but i was a dental nurse for 8 years so i just saw my dentist. You must go incase it gets worse and besides even if the pain wears off..trust me it will rear its ugly head again at some point. You surely dont want to lose your tooth, infect any others or go through root treatment. If you go now it may just be a something simple that a short courseof antibiotics will cure.In the meantime keep your teeth clean, eat on the other side and wash your mouth out regularly with salt water. Hope you get it sorted.

you can go to the pharmacy and buy some orajel...it is a topical gel you put on the tooth that hurts that numbs the tooth and makes it a bit more comfortable. also, try taking advil because it will help with the inflammation (help reduce the inflammation) and make it feel less painful.
