I think it is because they find it easier to write what they want to say then actually say it.. My bf never called me on the phone we would talk in Ims

This takes some heavy duty math, but in lame-man's terms:
The probability that the woman, whatever type of relationship it is, will somehow get mad, make you feel incomfortable/akward, or get bored of talking to you quickly, is VERY VERY HIGH!
probably nearing 85%.
Therefore to reduce the probability, hell, reducing any chance of unpleasentries in a conversation we reduce ourselves to text messages, where there's no voice for emotion.
