I get the vibe from a waitress pretty quick when she feels I will/will not tip fair, so I get treated according to her pre-concieved notion.

And I tip 15% if the service was relatively quick and she was conscientious, more if she surprises me, less if she disappoints.

As a waitress, I think people are ignorant when it comes to proper tipping! You should always give 15%, even if the service was just ok because you did get served! A lot of times, a person will get on a power trip when they go to a restaurant. They know that their server will do whatever is asked of them because they want a good tip. Most people do not understand that my job is not as easy as they may think. And, I only make an hourly wage of $2.14 an hour which covers taxes,so tipping is all I have to show for my sore feet, migraine and irritability!
Oh and I would advise anyone who goes to a certain restaurant regularly to make sure that they tip the servers well and treat them with the proper respect because, if you can't see your food, you don't know what's been done to it! I have never done anything disgusting to a persons meal but I have seen it done and if that Jack guy who said tipping is Un-American ever sat down at one of my tables, I might just copy the nasty scene in the movie "Waiting"!

Tipping in restaurants shouldn't go any lower than 15% unless the service really sucks. I consider 20% pretty much the norm now and that is what I tip. If the service is excellent than I'll give them a little more.

The NORMAL amount to tip is between 15 and 20% of the bill (NOT 10-15% like the cheap idiot stated above). Anything less just shows you're a cheap ******* and you should've choked on your food. I CAN'T STAND people who don't tip or don't tip enough. Do you realize that the restaurants are only required by law to pay these waiters/waitresses an hourly rate of $2.83. These servers DEPEND ON THEIR TIPS TO MAKE A LIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next time you're at the local diner, just imagine yourself in poor little sally or kwandalisha's shoes, sweating like a pig trying to earn enough cash by serving your fat beasty *** in order to put food on the table for her family. Imagine how you would feel going up to a table after the guests have left, only to discover they left little or no tip for you, after you busted your butt serving them. IS IT FAIR??????????????????

TIP THE DAMN PEOPLE OR STAY THE HELL HOME AND MAKE YOUR OWN FOOD!
