I've been through that career path before so I'll give you one of those 'in retrospect' opinions. I'm not so sure a major in criminal justice is the right major, even for wanting to go into the criminal justice field as a career. It's certainly not needed, nor does it enhance your hiring, if you intend to be a police officer. It sounds as though it makes sense to take CJ if thats where your interest is, but to do it all over again I would take CJ as electives, because I would enjoy some of the subject matter, but not all of it. And I would major in literally anything else, like business or psychology or accounting, something math related, etc. The reason is because you don't need a CJ education to 'enter' law enforcement and/or CJ, but your background education can be a big advantage when it comes to a specialty or advancing as an expert in a particular field. This is where the alternative major comes in. I make these judgments based on what I have personally observed in these law and law enforcement environements, and then thinking back to those college days. But don't take my feedback as what's right for you. Just store it in the back of your mind as something to wonder about, ask others about, etc, as you plan your own career path.
