Canon is best. Ours is Canon and it gives you pro-shots. The images are great. Their cams are user-friendly and stylish too. Hotness.

The Best Digital Camera company in overal style, features, and usage would have to be either Nikon or Olympus. Both of this brands are far ahead in all the categories, Canon has gotten a little bit better, but still has a long ways to catch up. HP and Kodak are horrible in almost every way possible. I would look on ebay for a great camera at around 200 bucks, you can get them even cheaper then Wal-Mart of the Camera stores!

I just want to take issue with the statement that everything besides two particualr brands is crap. There is a LOT out there in the $200 range that will serve very nicely and for q long time.

I keep posting this answer, but people keep responding positively, so here we go again. This will show that other brands are not crap.

There are MANY cameras out there, but I can only comment on the ones I know personally. Nikon Coolpix 4600 (4 megapixel) or 5600 (5 megapixel plus video) are both under $200, even including a decent sized memory card (512K to 1 GB). I have many digital cameras and I am never disappointed with the results of my 4600. AND - it uses "AA" batteries instead of expensive special batteries. It's about the size of a pack of cigarettes, too. There are newer cameras that I am not as familiar with in that price range, but since you said "good, small, cheap," this is one (two) I can really recommend from experience. There are newer Coolpix cameras, but I admit that I am not familiar with all of their features. I assume that the quality of the photos is at least as good as these older models. I'd say to just be sure you get one that has an optical viewfinder, though, because you can't always see the image in an LCD viewfinder.

Here are a few samples. These pics were taken with the Coolpix 4600 with no tricks or gimmicks or filters or anything. They had some "very minor adjustments" in Photoshop. If you bought this camera today, you would be able to go out and snap these pictures yourself.

Read your owners manual at least THREE TIMES!!!! I have a $7,000.00 US DSLR and if I have the ISO film speed set too low, and the subject is moving in low light, I TOO will get blurry pictures!!!!! You really might not need a more expensive camera, just a basic understanding of how film develops an image based upon available light, shutter speed, lens aperture, etc. You really do need to have a basic understanding of film to excel in digital. You can control many of these by : 1> Using a tripod, or mono pod 2> Selecting a faster shutter speed 3> Selecting a higher ISO speed.... Read your camera's manual, or go to it's web site.... Any decent Manufacturer with a website, Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc, will give you tips on how you can avoid, or reduce the blur.... If you really want to reduce the blur totally, than get a really top of the line DSLR....about $8,000.... a state of the art flash... about $350, and state of the art zoom lens, about $1,500.00 About $10,000.00 US You are *NOT* going to get PEOPLE MAGAZINE and US WEEKLY snapshots with a $200 point and shoot from Walmart!!! If you want to get each and every pube from a fast moving Britney Spears crotch shot, than you have to invest a bit more than a mere $200.00 .... Common!!! About the cheapest lens would set you back almost $1,500.00!!! You get what you pay for....

The best company in terms of making good digital cameras are Canon, Olympus, and Fuji.

For $200 you'll get decent cameras, but not great selection in terms of chic & fancy cameras with the latest technologies (Image stabilizer, Wifi, Ultrasonic motor, ultra zoom, etc etc).

Canon has affordable A-series cameras that is less than $200 in that you can get and the cameras are user friendly. The A-520 is probably a popular one you can get at your local Best Buy.

Olympus has their "economicable" cameras lines in the D-series zoom and their ever popular FE series cameras. Stay away from the plasticky/cheapy of FE-110. Splurge on the FE-140 if you can.

Nikon actually outsource some of their current digital cameras from companies in Taiwan. They concentrated on making Digital SLRs these days because it's their top money maker.

The #1 company in North America in sales of digital cameras is Kodak. But customer satisfaction is not as high as Canon or Olympus. Plus Kodak is sort catering their cameras to lower end users and customers who don't want to spend. You get what you paid for.

Sony are nice, but again like Nikon, they also outsource alot of production to someone else. They claimed to make Zeiss lenses on their cameras. Knowledgable insiders can tell you in that Zeiss don't make digital lenses for digital point & camera. Tamron makes those lenses. And you can't get service repairs anywhere with Sony. That's where Canon, Olympus, and other traditional camera makers have the edge over the non-traditional camera makers (HP, Samsung, and Sony).

In a nutshell, go with traditional camera companies like Canon, Fuji, or Olympus.

Stay away from cheapies like Kodak, HP, or Epson. Nikon is a crapshoot (they're a hit or miss on certain of their Taiwanese cameras). Sony is a big company, but not well known for making good cameras. Pentax is on the edge of bankruptcy (until Samsung bailed them out on their SLR productions), but point and shoot production is going to be downgraded. Contax, Minolta are out. Leica is expensive. Finally, Panasonic are just the cheaper version of Leica.

i am very happy with my sony. It only has 2.5 megapixel or something but I have had it for over 4 years and it never ONCE gave me a problem. it even has rechargeable AA batteries and it came with the charger.

We paid 300 new for this, but if you look on ebay or O or even a used camera store in the mall, you will find that there are great used cameras out there. People just want to upgrade to the fancy 5megpxl ones. I have tried to blow some of the pix up to 8x10, and it is grainy, but a 5x7 comes out perfect. I will not be looking to get rid of it anytime soon.

good luck! :)
