ATIVAN AND VALIUM ARE BOTH TRANQUILIZERS BUT THEY DO NOT EFFECT YOU THE SAME WAY. ATIVAN IS VERY MILD, IN A SMALL DOSE IT WILL GRADUALLY TAKE THE EDGE OFF WITH GIVING YOU THE SEDATING EUPHORIC EFFECT THAT VALIUM DOES. SO NO IT SHOULDN'T KNOCK YOU OUT.
THIS IS A VERY COMMON USE FOR THIS MED. RELAX AND TAKE IT AS IT WILL ALLEVIATE YOUR STRESS. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BIOPSY.

Holy cow, either I got a high dose or i am very sensitive to meds, because I took it several times after a panic attack, and it totally knocked me out, but only after I got totally drowsy and was practically hallucinating. By the way, since nobody else mentioned it, this is one of those drugs that induces amnesia, meaning you may have some "black spots" in your memory.
Again, depends on the dose, and maybe I was sensitive to it.
Just make sure you have a ride home, as you definitely cannot drive while on it.

Hi, It is according what milligram you are taking. I take 0.5 and it is very mild, but some one who is not used to it, it can make you a little drowsy. Usually to completely knock you out, you would need a higher dosage. It is a very good drug for relaxation and nervousness , but can be addictive if taken for a long time. Hope that helps.

It can be pretty strong depending on the dose and it works fast. It's a controlled substance. Most likely you were prescribed 0.5 or 1mg which will calm you down and relax you enough for your procedure. I wouldn't worry about getting knocked out from it since you are already going to have anesthesia.

Ativan is a mild stimulant. It is nothing like Xanax. It puts you into a relaxed state. I was taking the one mg for my grandmothers funeral and all it did was help me get through the whole experience. As far as I am concerned, there is no harm in taking this medication (as prescribed).

I take ativan for panic disorder. They're a hypnotic really. They just calm you down and make you a little sleepy. That's all really. I was hesitant to take them at first, but they keep my panic at bay. They work very fast. Don't drive!!
Happiness and health to you. Good luck!

Ativan can be a mild seditive if the dose is small you should not be knocked out, even if you goto sleep it should be easy to wake you. I think you should not drive your self to the appointment.

it is quite safe and taking it before a surgical procedure or dental work is appropriate.
If you are going to have a light anaesthesia they are going to give you a midazolam or some other benzodiazepam any way but the ativan will calm you down and less anxiety means less pain

I've taken it. It makes me very tired and it takes about 36 hours to get over the drowsiness. For me. It is very effective at calming the nerves, though.
