My one year old dog got hold of a shopping bag with a candy wrapper in it. She chewed the wrapper all up, but I got it from her before she swallowed it. The wrapper had chocolate smuged on it. Is that enough to make her sick?

Actually, regular chocolate only makes a dog sick if the eat too much of it and then it gives them diarrhea and makes them throw up. While it does depend on the size of the dog it also depends on how much chocolate they ate. The thing that is really harmful for them is raw baker's cocoa. And then they have to eat a pound of it but they won't die they will just get sick. It would be like if you ate a pound of raw baker's cocoa. I know becuase i have two dogs who split a forty pound box of fundraiser chocolate's one time. Threw-up for a few days and had the runs but they were fine.

Nope.
The rule is one ounce of chocolate per pound of dog is dangerous. That is for DARK chocolate. So if your puppy is tiny and weighs only 10 pounds, she can eat 10 ounces of chocolate. That's almost a pound. It really isn't possible for them to eat enough chocolate to hurt them without vomiting. . Milk chocolate is diluted enough that they don't get sick unless they get a lot more. It is really difficult for a dog to die of chocolate poisoning.
Hope this helps.

Nope-she should be okay. Maybe a little case of the runs, but that little bit should do no harm.It effects some dogs very hard with seizures, vomiting etc...

Probably not, but there is no set amount that is poisonous. It affects different dogs differently. What is does is affect their cardiovascular system. So, even if one time of eating chocolate isn't fatal, it can be an accumulation of effects.

it'd be good to know how much your dog weighs, but based on practical experience, i don't think much will come of it. she really should be all right. stay vigilant for a while, and keep your eyes open for any obviously odd behaviour. honestly though, i believe she'll be fine.

pet her for me.

no that is not enough...they would have to eat an excessice amount of chocolate to get sick...my dog got in a box of chocolate icecream sandwiches one time and ate them and she never got sick...don't worry about it she'll be fine.

no, not enough. theobromine (spelling?) is the toxic ingredient in chocolate and is in higher levels in baking chocolate. she could most likely be okay eating the whole candybar, but I wouldn't try it.

It doesn't sound like she ingested a lot, but keep an eye on her for any unusual behavior and call your vet tomorrow just to be safe.
