no, they roost for the night and come back out in the morning to forage and feed.

Not just at night. I've seen hummingbirds come out during the day as well. That is the only time I see them is during the day light.

when i worked at an aviary, i learned that hummingbirds go into what is called a "torper" (Sp?) at night. it's like a pseudo-hibernation. they are able to slow down their heart beat to save energy and roost at night. when the day comes around they start up and spend all day feeding on insects (gnats) and nectar. they have to keep up with the large amount of energy they burn.

there is such an insect called a hummingbird moth. until i learned what this was i thought hummers stayed out late to feed. but this moth moves around similar to a hummer. apparently, it also feeds on nectar!!

i hope that helps :)

No they do not, usally they will come out early morning or the coolest times of the days. Sense they are so very small, they have alot of more worry about other birds eating them right out of mid air. So staying put is their way of staying alive.

I'm not sure if they come out at night or not, but if you are talking about the empty feeders in the morning... the racoons will do that for you. Also around here, the woodpeckers have learned to drink out of the feeders.
