Yes, when I was 26 years old my son had chicken pox and gave them to me. While in the throws of it I began to have EXCRUCIATING pain in my left knee and could not walk. I went to the doctor and she said it was shingles becuase the virus had gotten into the nerves of my leg.

I'm 21 and have had one really bad outbreak when I was 17, then a few minor ones since then. I'm a healthy girl too, but I think it's one of those things that just shows up when your system is not running at it's peak-as my outbreaks always occured immediately before or during times when I was sick with a bad cold or a sinus infection or something. I've had some doctors since who have said I misdiagnosed, that i'm too young to have shingles, but the docs that I saw when I had my outbreaks were always very confident that's what it was. So, well, you're not alone! Exercise, eat as healthy as you can, and get as much sleep as you can-and when you get stressed, find a good way to release it-like kickboxing or swimming laps or something. I've made some healthy changes to my lifestyle and I think it's helped me stay healthy-and therefore avoid shingles! Also, this sounds weird-but eat a lot of fruit on a regular basis (I like Jamba Juice fruit smoothies myself). They have a ton of vitamins-especially vitamin c-which helps guard against, and fight off, infections. Good to know if you don't want your immune system to be working overtime! Best of luck to you!

I had shingles about 20 times when I was in my mid 40's. This went on with the very expensive medication until I went to a doctor who gave me a cortisone shot and that was the end of my shingles. That was 15 years ago.

I had them when I was like 20 or so. I worked with a kid who had chicken pox and about a week or so later I got a raging case of shingles. Mine didn't hurt or anything, except once when I became really startled by something. The nerve endings just burned, so weird. They do suck though, I had scars for over a year after they were gone.

Varicella-zoster virus causes disease generally affects the elderly, although it occasionally occurs in younger and/or immunodeficient individuals.
attack of shingles can be significantly reduced by immediate treatment with the antiviral drugs acyclovir, val acyclovir or acyclovir. These drugs may also help stave off the painful aftereffects of shingles known as postherpetic neuralgia.
generally dangerous to healthy individuals and it usually resolves without complications.
Most people who have shingles have only one bout with the disease in their lifetime. However, individuals with impaired immune systems, i.e., people with AIDS or cancer, may suffer repeated episodes.
if you have repeated attack consult doctor don't delay.
