When I was a pagan, we used to have full moon ceremonies where we would honor the moon. We would burn tobacco offerings in a sacred fire, and send prayers to the "great spirit".

Although I'm a Christian now, It still interests me, to hear what everybody's religions and culture is all about.

The moon is a symbol (read...a SYMBOL) for the Blessed Virgin Mary. The symbolism is in that Mary, mother of Jesus, does not radiate her own light but reflects the light of her Son, as the moon has no light of its own but reflects the sunlight.

When we see the moon we really see the reflected sun. When look at Mary and venerate her we actually see the Son, through her.

Sure, the full moon is very important in my culture; my religion too. Although the religious part is more centered around moon pies, gosh I used to love them when I was a kid! I'm a Piegan so all the different types of baked goods are of interest to me. The full moon in the sky is tied strongly to my roots in the country, the harvest moon particularly. That goes back to my Celtic ancestry, we were big on that sort of thing and it just got into the blood after so many millium.

As a witch most definately. It represents the goddess in her full glory as you know. Seeing how you term it as great spirit and you used tobacco, then it was native american based. I am Celtic/Greek and my path is NROOGD. We also if it is right do ceremonies during a new moon. A new moon ritual is very different from a full moon. It honors the duality both god and goddess.

No not really. In Asatru the God of the moon is Mani (in Norse cosmology the moon is male and the sun female) and the one legend about him that survives is when he rescued the two children whom he adopted as His own (where the story of Jack and Jill came from). Monday is named for Him (Mani's Day). Most Heathens just regard the full moon as the time when Mani's power is at it's height, although you get a few that regard it as a great time for magic (the ones who practice magic anyway...not all Asatruars do).

yes,

actually its more the New moon than the full moon is honored.

Numbers 10:10
Also at your times of rejoicing—your appointed feasts and New Moon festivals—you are to sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, and they will be a memorial for you before your God. I am the LORD your God."

as such I celebrate the New Moon (with prayer and celebration instead of burnt offerings)

Why'd you leave?

"A wee child toddling in a wonder-world, I prefer to their dogma, my excursions into the natural gardens where the voice of Great Spirit is heard in the twittering of birds, the rippling of the might waters, and the sweet breathing of flowers. If this is Paganism, then at present, I am Pagan."

I am LAKOTA! (That's my final answer, and I'm stick'in to it!)
