Anyone can say he/she is a believer. But as "Wise" man once said, "you can tell a tree by its fruit. A good tree will bear good fruits and a bad tree will bear bad fruits." Now, what belief would you choose?

Faith works miracles, if your hands and feet are involved.

True religion is to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church or in any other, or in no church at all.

I do and you have asked a wonderful question, and you are right when you gave your analogy.. However, Jesus said when he was on earth that people would be able to tell his disciples by the way they lived and carried themselves.
