JAMES1:26-27
if anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.27religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

You answered your own question. People that aren't christians don't understand that christians are more than just "good" people. We do more than go to church, pray, and act good. We do have a relationship with God. I think that so many people get caught up in "religion" they forget about everything else. People think that you have to act a certain way, dress a certain way, and be around certain people to be religious. And the truth is that when you are a christian(which means little Christ) and you have a relationship with God you want to do everything for God and the way He wants. God gives us convictions that cause us to change our life dramatically. Not because we have to to be a "good christain" but because we want to. People are just ignorant and they have a certain mindset and they are stuck. As christians we have to stand for what we believe in.

Christianity is a religion. Christians are religious people. It really has at all to do with them not taking the time to read the bible, some people you could talk until you were blue in the face and they still wouldn't hear you. Just a quick message here: next time you ask a question like this you might want to think it out first, then ask it. God be with you.

christianity is a religon, christians are devotee's of this system of beliefs, call it a relationship with god or whatever else it is still by definition a religion, by the way the dictionary defines religion as.
Religion - noun 1.
1. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
2. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.
4. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion.
in what way does christianity NOT conform to the above, besides this is not a question that belongs in this catagory, this is for INTER-PERSONAL relations, and god... doesn't count, in any form.

If you're asking why a lot of people think that Christianity is a religion, its because religion means : a system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. So, it along with everyone else's beliefs, whatever name they give it, is still the same, faith based beliefs. So, have all the faith you want, have your personal relationship with whomever or whatever you want, religion is religion. Its not all good, its not all bad. There is a huge world out there, so huge that there are many, many different faiths and customs and true devotees totally devoted to their cause. Some pray all day, some hurt themselves to be closer to their God's, some suffer for the cause. Whatever level of commitment you have, good for you, enjoy and hope you make it to your deserved place in the end. Good luck with that.

I believe Christianity is a religion, and I spent years studying the Bible as a Christian years before I came to this conclusion. Christians call it religion:
Gimme that old time religion....
Am I a Christian now? Christians I meet with now would say no because I don't attend church service, or claim any denomination. I don't believe Jesus is deity and you can learn that even tha Holy Catholic Church didn't -until 400 years after his "death". To the person whose question I am answering, I am not answering this to argue your faith, nor to intimidate you. But Christianity as it is today embraces dogma, many churches use a formal, non spiritual form of service. Recited words with minimal feeling. Spirit is like the wind. You go as it moves you spiritually/ emotionally. I don't question your faith, nor do I judge you. Just giving you my opinion that I feel Christianity in general ) is religion.
Peace
P.S. I believe in Jesus

Oh, so you don't have a system of belief and worship? A faith in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe?
Instead, you speak about God like He's your girlfriend.
Christians: please send better representatives for your religion. It's tiresome dealing with the same lame ducks day after day.

Thank you. The words I have been looking for, but not able to find. We might as well be called Jesus freaks. The only religion in it is what is associated with the name.
