the guy above is right about bogey, but not birdie. Birdie came about because it is difficult to get a birdie in golf and it is difficult to catch a bird in normal life, see the connection?

Well both are way back in the annuls of the game.In scottish a bogie man was an evil spirit.Hence if you were one over it was a bogie, two over a double bogie A birdie was because your ball would fly like a bird,So you had to hit a good tee shot to get a birdie on a par 3,two really good shots on a par 4 to make three.Oo a par 5 you had to make three good shts for a birdie In all of these instances you had to make your putt.Way back then a golfer only had five clubs All wooden, later they screwed a metal plate to the clubhead. Theres also an eagle, two under, what flies like eagle and an albatross three under the longest flying bird knoqn
