this is the scientific data for a sweet potoato....looks like the varieties you have listed are all batatas.

Potato = Solanum tuberosum
Taro root = Colocasia esculenta
Purple Yam = Dioscorea alata
Chinese Yam = Dioscorea oppositifolia
