Many people are offended by public breastfeeding because so many of us whip it out in the restaurant or the mall for everyone to get a good look. I can't understand this because I know many people who bf in public and they are very discrete. I've been to many public places and anytime I've seen someone nursing her shirt was up just enough to allow the baby to latch and all I ever see is the baby's head and a wrinkled shirt. I'm sure there were many other times that I have been around nursing mothers and I just didn't notice.
So tell me - why are you looking so intently if you are so uncomfortable with it?

Gooood point! I have never, ever seen enough skin when someone is breastfeeding to think that it would make someone "uncomfortable." Nursing mothers are incredibly discrete. Like you said, someone would REALLY have to take a GOOD, LONG look in order to see anythng that could potentially make them uncomfortable. It's almost like they are looking for something to complain about. So sad..really.

I breastfed my daughter for 10 months. I had no problem nursing in public. I wore nursing shirts or button down shirts to make it easier. Most people did not notice. I had a woman congratulate me on breastfeeding, but that was the only comment I received. Breastfeeding is healthiest, and I wish the rest of the country would realize that! We have no problem showing breasts on TV, but heaven forbid a woman breastfeed in public!

Babies were born to be breastfed! That's why God made women's breasts like they are, not for men to ogle! I have 4 children and I have breastfed all of them and I think it's wonderful to see a mother feeding her child anywhere. I am still nursing my last one and I will feed her whenever and whereever she wants to, and always have! She is 15 months old now and I am going to let her nurse as long as she wants. My first, son, nursed until he was 2, my next, daughter, until she was about 18 months, my next, son, until he was about 10 months. Just had to put my two cents in on breastfeeding. It's what the Lord intended! :-)

hey i hang them out there and bear them all the time. It is what women have ti ts for. There not there to be all pretty and perky for the guys to tweak. they are for a baby to have natural milk. If people are uncomfortable with it they can keep walking or stop and look if they want. My daughter won't mind and neither will I. If you choose to breast feed it is part of it. It is not only convenient but I have less to carry in the diaper bag. I have bottles on the go. already made. If someone needs lessons I'll be the first to stand up and say see this is why we have ti ts.

We as women have ti ts for breastfeeding not putting pretty little bras on them and filling them with silicone to make them bigger. if you want bigger breast...BREAST FEED.

The problem with breast feeding isn't the act itself, it is our uptight culture. Breasts are hidden in general in this country, so any sort of public display generates interest from those who like them, and panic from the uptight Puritans. Breastfeeding is much more acceptable in Europe. But then again so are breasts, and sex, and just about everything else! (IMHO)

Breastfeeding should be such a normal, natural part of our lives, but it isn't. -- because we don't lead very normal, natural lives.

I breastfeed my first for 14 months...and I was a whip it out anywhere girl. I nursed my son while waiting in lines at disneyland!! If little girls can run around half naked... clothes falling off...boobs hanging out....then Why cant I FEED my kid?? ITs a double standard in this country. If you are going around half naked to be sexy...thats just fine...but if you are nursing...OMG cover it up! I dont see why people have to make such a big deal out of it!

I hope to join the ranks of breastfeeding in-public mothers any day/week now! I am all for discreet and polite. I too agree with the "don't like it don't look" opinion.

I've nursed all three of my children anywhere and everywhere that we have gone. On a train, on a plane, in museums, at funerals and weddings, while shopping in the store, in doctor's offices, while having a PAP test (LOL!), in a movie theatre, you name it! And most of the time people were CLUELESS unless they were nursing moms themselves.

i breastfed in public, but did it discreetly. I have no problems with the mothers that want to breastfeed in public. however, when you make a spectacle out of it, there's the problem. the only women that make me uncomfortable are the ones that bare all for the world to see.

Sort of like slowing down in traffic to get a good look at an accident.
