Following Red Cross Protocol, (new 2006 protocols for adults):
- CHECK scene for safety
- CHECK victim for consciousness. Yours seems to be unconscious.
- CALL 911
- CHECK breathing and signs of life for 10 seconds
- If not breathing, perform CPR- 30 compressions to 2 breaths*.
- If breathing, check for other issues and care as needed.
- If there is nothing else you can do at this point, put the victim in the Recovery Position and wait for the ambulance, which you already called.
*Under the new guidelines, if an adult is not breathing, we go straight to CPR. There are several reasons for this which would be explained if you take the class or go to the website http://www.redcross.org

In any first aid situation, you treat the three B's first - beating, breathing, and bleeding. You check the heart, if there's a pulse you check the lungs. If there's a respiratory rate, you check for bleeding. If that's okay, then you begin other first aid steps. If the person is simply not responding, talk to them in a loud voice while tapping them on the shoulder. Call 911, of course.

Don't allow anyone to move the person.
Observe if the person is breathing, e.g. the chest should go up and down.
If person is not breathing, breathe occasionally into their mouth or nose to give them oxygen.
Get someone else to call for an ambulance.
If necessary and possible keep someone else on standby to give mouth to mouth resuscitation in case you get too tired to do it.
