Clean, fresh water is even harder to find than cheap gasoline. (Just ask those of us who live in the desert!)

If there were a viable alternative to gasoline then don't you think we'd be using it already? Yes there are alternative energy sources to the gasoline motor but none are as cheap (yes, AS CHEAP) as gasoline. I'm sure there are any number of scientists and back yard chemists working on trying to find a subsistute for gas right now...so far with no luck.

Because nobody's managed to build a practical hydrogen fusion reactor yet, let alone one small enough to power a car.
