Talk to the dress salon or your seamstress/tailor and find out the absolute last day that they would need you in for a fitting for final alterations in case your weight between now and then fluxuates due to nerves or stress....that way you won't have to worry about the dressing being too snug or too large.

Yes, it is common and possible. Just make sure you find someone you trust with your dress and someone with a clean atmosphere. My girlfriend was a size 2 when she got married but the dress she wanted only went as low as a size 4 or 6. The alteration lady she had alter her dress did a wonderful job and my girlfriend had her dress back within 2 weeks. Just think, she had to "shrink or shorten" nearly every single seam of the dress but it finally fit her perfect! It won't exactly be cheap, but it can be done and should not take too long. Good luck and congrats!

Your story is kind of different for one reason: when I had purchased my wedding dress, the woman who did the alterations told me that most the brides gained weight before the ceremony and they had to try to figure out ways to expand the dress (not easy from a dressmaker's standpoint!). The good news is that it's much easier to size down than up. I needed my dress adjusted down, too, and it came out beautifully. You should probably call your bridal salon and ask how long it takes to do alterations because you've been losing weight. I doubt it should take more than a couple of weeks, but in the height of wedding season, those places get pretty swamped.
Good luck with your wedding and marriage!

That should not be a problem depending on the style of your dress. But you should probably be checking with seamstresses now and not wait much longer. Another thing to take into consideration is if you plan to lose more weight. Multiple alterations can be pricey. And make sure you know how the seamstress is going to alter it. when i got mine altered the moron altered it in the middle- of a straight dress- rather than from the bottom- so make sure your on the same page. good luck and happy marriage.

You're three months away and you want to panic??
What are you going to do 3 weks before??? Catalyptic fit?????
Seriously, you can get your dress sized down. Be sure the tailor/dressmaker is someone who also makes and fits prom dresses, wedding gowns, etc. and not just business wear.
Get your dress done within four weeks from now, and have one or two fittings over that time. Tell the person that the wedding is three weeks before the actual date so you're sure to be finished in plenty of time (so that if you're going to panic, it can be about something else).
Good luck!

Most wedding salons will do the alterations on gowns they
sold to you for a reasonble price (maybe even free).
Moreover, if they sold it, they probably have experience
with the type of gown and may be more efficient at altering
it than others.
Don't worry - yours is not an uncommon problem.
I suggest that you call the place and tell them that you
think you will need a substantial alteration about 2 weeks
before the wedding because of weight loss.
They may have you come in for an interim measurement.

It's easy to have dresses sized down, it's much harder to let them out a size. No worries! But you should find a seamstress now, they'll have to do a few fittings before you're done.

It is not a problem to get your dress sized down. Take it to a seamstress and they should be able to help you out but you do need to get it to them quickly cuz it may take some time depending on the alterations.

take a deep breath and don't panic! you are doing great! My dress was too long in the torso and they took up the shoulders beautifully, any decent seamstress will be able to take care of this for you. wait until about a month before the wedding and that will give them plenty of time to make the alterations. check online references and make sure you take it to someone reputable. congratulations and don't sweat the small stuff, in the grand scheme of things it's just one day and you are going to look fabulous!
