The name Lamasil is a brand name, and can legally be used only by the pharmaceutical company that came up with the name which is Novartis.
The generic name of this drug is terbinafine.
Now go to the answer given by woman36 and review the known side effects and adverse reactions to this drug. It can truly cause as much trouble as help.
The editors of a publication known as "The Medical Letter on Drugs and Therapeutics," which is known as an international source of very reliable information for the medical and scientific community has stated:
"The advisability of taking a very expensive drug for months to treat an infection that is mainly cosmetic and may relapse is unclear".
My recommendation is that unless one is really wealthy, they should treat a fungal infection of the toenails with a drug called undeyclenic acid, which can be purchased over the counter at a pharmacy and can be successfully used to treat fungal infection of the toenails just as successfully as terbinafine.
First, keep the toenail clean, and abrade it with a special file or pumice stone that is used to remove the built-up dead skin that one often finds on the heels of soles of their feet.
Do this abrading after your shower or bath, when the nail is soft because of penetration by water. When you have ground the nail down as much as you dare without injuring the nail bed, paint it with the solution of undecylenic acid (25%). Do this after each shower, bath, of feet soak.
This will inhibit the further growth of the fungus and it will gradually be replaced by normal nail. You can't really kill the fungus because it is imbedded within the body of the nail, and the fungus grows faster than the toenail does.
It is a long, slow process, but inexpensive and will be just as effective as the Lamasil. The reason one has to take Lamasil for 3 to 6 months is because the drug penetrates the nail only at the growth plate, which is the most proximal part of the nail. Toenil grow slowly and are really "dead" as far as the body is concerned, so the drug just won't penetrate that part of the nail.

Are you sure you want it?
Lamisil tablets have been found to cause diarrhea, indigestion, rash, abdominal pain, gas, hives, itching, nausea, taste disturbances, vision problems, fatigue, flue, hair loss, joint pain, liver problems, aches, and vomiting. Vision problems resulting from Lamisil tablets have been diagnosed as serious changes and possible damage to the retina of the eye. Lamisil tablets can cause rare, possibly fatal liver disease and, in rare cases, caused severe skin reactions. Stop using Lamisil immediately if you develop a skin rash and call your doctor immediately, as these too can be fatal.
Anyway, its called Lamisil, even in Mexico
