Tell him this is a perfect example of trusting God's word...that it doesn't depend on our "feeling" anything. We believe that God will do as He says because His word tells us so. Jesus said, "I will never leave nor forsake you". Therefore, we know this is true. There will come a time when your friend will feel God's presence. But perhaps right now God wishes him to rely on God's word and not his "feelings" to trust that God is there, as He promises He will be, every minute of every day. Tell him to keep praying, keep studying, keep praising, and keep trusting the most high God. It will come!

It may be hard to understand, but there are times when
God does not let you feel His presence. I found it to be a time of testing, revealing if my faith was based on what I felt, or on His word. Its a desert experience. Just remember that Jesus is the Living Water, and stay in His Word no matter what the feelings say.

You are not to rely on feeling the presence of the Lord, you are to know that He is there, for God said He would never leave us nor forsake us. In the bible it says we must KNOW that were are saved, we must KNOW that Jesus is the way the truth and life. He shouldn't lose faith. In the bible it says that when the bride groom(Jesus) is with the disciples they weren't obligated to fast but when the bridegroom is away they were to fast. SO when you feel like God is distant you should fast. Also that God may be distant so that He can see how you live with out feeling His presence

Sometimes feelings are wrong. In the morning, when the alarm clock goes off, I don't FEEL too much like a Christian. :o) But it doesn't change the fact that I am.
God is real, whether people feel it to be so or not. It's a fact. In Philippians 3:10 Paul doesn't say he wants to FEEL Christ. He says he wants to KNOW Christ.
I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and I can tell you that most days I don't FEEL like going to work. But I do anyway. Why? Because I like to have a roof over my head, gas for my car and food in my frig. We have to move past our feelings and go with what we know is truth, even if we don't feel like it.
A married person may not FEEL married, but it doesn't change the fact. They refuse a come on from someone of the opposite sex because they know the truth of being married. Feelings change. Truth doesn't.

That he needs to spend most of his time focusing on truth. Some people need the 'presence', others need more of a rational view of life. Tell him to come to Yahoo answers, and check out some good apologetics web sites. he probably needs more 'information' so as to convince his mind of truth.
Try this website for the milk...

then when he wants the "meat of the word try"
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/debates/
Some christians require more information to be convinced of truth.
tell him Seek truth
2Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth
also
Mat 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Your friend has to believe that God is there with him/her. He/she may be too busy searching for it and not paying attention to the presence thats there. Tell him/her to just relax and have some real long spirtual time with the Lord. Hope that helps. I will be praying....you should too

hallelujah praise the lord someone finally asked this question. I wanted to ask it myself, but I'm a little afraid people will misguide my words of wisdom and put negative answerer's. You are a very brave man to ask this and might I say I feel his presence every single day of my life.

Perhaps he's just not felt the true calling to Christianity or subconsciously feels he's being overwhelmed with all the teachings and is creating a block toward it. Maybe his calling is to another path. I hope it's not being forced on him, or that he's not forcing himself into it. We're not all meant to follow one god, ya know.

You can tell him he's right. Admitting you're wrong is just what he needs. After all, he is your friend, you don't want to see him sad do you. Let him know you care. Besides, if Jesus Christ was here, you'd only allow him to be crucified. It's not like you would die for him. You didn't ask him to die. He was looking for trouble when he angered all the religious leaders.

He should spend time alone praising God till he does feel his presence. And keep studying God is already there your friend just has to accept it.
But remember Faith is not by seeing . it is evidenced in the Spirit.
