Give him a bath & mix baking soda entire box in the shampooing water. If you can, get a shampoo without pesticides or chemicals. Get a Colloidal oatmeal shampoo;
or an Organic shampoo, & cream rinse. Make sure the shampoo does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate, it is hazardous to humans & pets. Get some Lanacane spray to treat the area, if you have Calamine lotion, use that on the effected area, alternate with a lotrimin cream, or spray [usually a altheletes foot spray, or fungal cream]. This should help. I hope your pooch feels better. don't use the vet, they only want your money. Use them only as a last resort, don't allow the dog to suffer. Please try to find a holistic vet in your area. The vets & doctors are only fodder for the pharmeceutical companies. You don't want your dog on drugs. You might want to try Natures Recipe holistic dog food, in venison & rice formula. I hope this helps! Be good to our animals & they will be good to you.

Oh.. I have had a LOT of experience with mange.. No.. you do not need to t ake the dog to the vet... You can do one of two things with #2 being the better and surer:
a) mix up salt water and with a sponge, rub it lightly into the mange area.
b) Go to a feed store(the names vary from city to city).. It is a place where they sell saddles, bridles, hay, corn, horse medicine, cow medicines, dog medicines, etc etc etc and there they sell a product called sarcoptic mange (that is what your dog has).. it comes in a bottle. You put the dog on a leash.. put rubber gloves on youself and souse the dog with water.. make sure the dog is thoroughly wet with water and of course, the dog will shake and most of the water will come off and that is ok.. then with a sponge and with your rubber gloves, pour the liquid onto the coat of the dog and with the sponge, lightly rub the mixture over the whole body.. I suspect that the mange is over more of the body than that which shows.
Mange is caused by mites that are UNDER the skin and when you apply this medicine, it will kill the mites but not the eggs.. thus, in about a week later, repeat the procedure... Your dog will or might go a bit crazy for a few minutes because the mites under the skin are going crazy and are dying but good for the doggie.

Stop being cheap and take him to the vet where he will get the proper treatment. How do you even know that it's mange? You can't just look at it and tell, mange is microscopic mites that can only be seen under a microscope. Your dog could have allergies, a skin infection, fleas, hot spots, or a number of other things. Only your vet can diagnose it and treat it properly. And if it is mange, usually the treatment is not that expensive anyway. Most home remedies (especially those found on Internet sites like this one) usually cause more harm than good. If you don't have the money to take care of him properly, then you need to find a new home for him where he will be taken care of.

First you need to figure out which type of mange your dog has as there are 2 types.
Sarcoptic mange: Caused by mites and is contagious to people & other animals. This type can be cured by dips. There are also some over the counter remedies for this one, you may want to check at your local feed or pet store. Don't put burnt motor oil on your dog. This really messes up a dog's liver.
Demodex mange is a whole other can of worms. You don't really cure as much as control.outbreaks This is also caused by mites but all dogs have this type of mite. In a normal dog, the dogs immune system keeps check on these mites so they don't cause any trouble. Dogs that develop demodicosis can't fight off this mite. There is nothing topical that can be put on these dogs that will really solve the problem.
The current treatment for Demodex is Ivermectin given orally. This drug can kill a dog that has heartworm and Collie & Collie mix dogs. The dosage for this drug can be tricky and overdose is common. This is why a trip to your vet is in order.
What you can do for your dog that your vet may or may not suggest is changing his food and adding suppliments. Since Demodex is an immunity problem you can boost your dog's natural immunity by superior diet (no corn, wheat or soy). I would look into chelated zinc, flax seed oil & Beta Glucans. Also since outbreaks are triggered by stress, keeping this dog on a regular schedule of excerise, meals, suppliments & good preventive health care, really helps. Keep your dog and his area clean. This dog MUST be spayed or neutered. This condition is genetic. Also, never give a dog with demodicosis cortisone, as it suppresses the immune system.
You can treat the other problems that go along with either type of mange topically. Staph infection is quick to set in with either type as there is a lot of scratching and skin damage. Chlorhexidine shampoos can really help if given frequently.
Oral antibiotics are very helpful also.

Unfortunately, there's no way to cure mange without taking the dog to a vet. The vet has to determine what type of mange it is, and then figure out the best treatment. There are two types of mange, sarcoptic and demodectic. The first type is easily cured with topical preparations and maybe oral antibotics. The second type is much harder to get rid of, and since it's genetic in origin, the dog usually has it for the rest of his life. It can be controlled, though.
Mange can spiral out of control really quickly. In a matter of one month, my dog went from just one patch of fur missing to at least a quarter of her skin raw, red, and oozing from her constant scratching.
There are some easy ways to keep him from scratching or biting at his skin so much, but none will cure the mange. You can apply Bitter Apple to the spots he chews and that will discourage chewing, and you can apply Allercaine (available at the pet store) to reduce itching. But the mange will still get worse without a pharmeceutical treatment from your vet.
Hope this helps!
P.S. Used motor oil can kill your dog.

How do you know it's mange, has it been seen by a vet who performed a scraping?
Do not put motor oil or anything else on your dog. Spend the bucks and see a vet, nothing you can do at home will work. Besides it could be scarcoptic manage, very contagious.

I work at a pet store and am also taking classes fro vet assisstant. Believe it or not you can use motor oil it will not harm the dog at all, we even tell people when they call the store that they have that option. But you can also go to a farm supply store and they should carry a mange dip if you wanted to take that route.

There are not any!! You must take the dog to a vet. That is what dog ownership is all about.
Aloe does NOT treat mange. It may soothe the itching, but the mites will not be killed!!!!!!!!!!
And used motor oil is toxic, not natural.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7Cc
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.
