Your airline will have the instructions. Usually they have to be checked as cargo and quarantined.

Well if it is a service dog like if it is going off to a training camp to train to help someone it can go on board with you. If it is just a pet you have to put it with the other luggage below the plane but i think they put the pets in a special place underneath wait a second never mind wrong answer i looked at the other ones but mabe i am right

Hi there I work for British Airways we will transit pets from all but a few USA destinations to Heathrow. Houston Denver and Dallas i think are ones that wont take animals due to heat i think, if you check on www,ba,com you will find all the info on there, main conditions are must be fully enlcosed in a box thats the lenght of the animal from tip of tail to tip of nose, we dont carry aniumals that have been sedated, the box has to be well ventilated and have solild sides ie no mesh gates etc, BA will normally provide you with a suitble container for a fee at major US hubs ie NYC, if you want to email me i would be happy to get the information for you if it would help. I dont know anything about quaurantine though but i think a vet from the us could arrange that for you. If you want me 2 find out my email address is salfordian27@hotmail.com. is quite easy to arrange and the cost is 1 piece of excess baggage, from US to UK you can carry 2 pieces so if you only had 1 case you would not have to pay much at all. but let me know if you want me to find out for you

You pet will need all it's shots and there is a fee to fly your pet over and in the past some airlines used to let the dog ride with the owner as long as it was in a carrying case (not sure how big your dog is) I wish you luck.
NOTE: If it was me I ask my vet to give me something to keep the dog calm

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/IpVEu
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

You will have to check as cargo and then when they get to the airport in the US there is a quatantine period. It varies depending on what counrty you are comming in from.
They are kept in the quarantine area and when it is done you pick them up. You will pay a baording fee durring the quaratine period.
Other than that I would have a curret health certificate from your vet and make sure all the shots are up to date at the time you leave.

I know all you have to do is quaratine your pet at your home for about 3 months before you go and then make sure you have the proper vaccines the airlines know what to do so call Continental and ask to speak with the people that handle pet travel.

get on the APHIS web site, usually, microchip ID, rabies vaccination, Titer, Health Certificate within 10 days of travel. No shipment of animals as cargo only in cabin (small ones) if temperatures are high. Check the weather report before you leave.

This link will help
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/index.htm
also be bloody carefull your dog breed is clearly accepted or denied access to UK because we have dumbass breed specific prohibition laws. If your dog resembles one of the banned dog breeds don't even atempt to bring it over because when your dog gets here somebody may not let you have your dog and some have died, there are some terrible stories because people don't do their job correctly.
Please for the benefit of yourself and your dog be very carefull.
This link to banned breeds shows how vague the "law" is
http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/welfare/domestic/ddogsleaflet.pdf
I hope this helps
ps all dog lovers should sign any petition against terrible German breed specific laws and tests, look it up
