You have Snow White, Cinderella, Mulan, Pochahontas, Ariel, Belle, and Jasmine....when are they going to do a fairy tale that has a BLACK princess. Don't our kids deserve to have a fairy tale princess that they can look up to

Great question! I think they should invent one. Besides, for most of those (Cinderella, Ariel, Belle) there's nowhere in the story that said those princesses were white. I think illustrators just make that assumption/preference. They probably do that thinking that they'd make more money. I don't like it because it gives the wrong impression that princesses can only be white.

I'm with you. I'd like to see a black princess.

Because it wouldn't be historically accurate. I mean, I know magical fairy tails from Disney aren't true but all of the princesses in the movies are from historically accurate times like the middle ages.

I don't know of any African princesses. As far as I know from AP world history, the kings of Africa would be a good subject for young boys but many kings would actually sell their people to slave traders so I don't know about that.

Plus most of those films were made in the 50's when racism was nation wide and an African princess unfrotuantely wouldn't sell. The truth hurts and the best answer is that it just wouldn't sell.

I believe the best role models for kids are their own family, not some fairy tale movie. That kind of idolship will only stay with a kid for a few years but the lessons a parent or grandparent can teach their kids will last a lifetime.

It does seem that Disney favors depicting fairy tale women as white, even Pocahontas, Mulan, and Jasmine weren't drawn much differently than the other white characters; their skin tones were very light. Snow White got her name, I think, from her skin being snow white...so that's not so bad. But I do get your point, it seems that they have covered almost every other culture, so maybe their next princess animation will have a black princess.

I have wondered the same thing. Why not set up a website to collect names of people who would want such a thing. Also, you could do a search on the net of African fairy tales. Present them to Disney for consideration. However, Disney usually rewrites the whole thing- good luck

1.Who knows any fables of black princesses?
2. A lot of African folklore never madeit to print in mainstream America.
3.If you know any tales of the Queen of Sheba's childhood, please share it.
4.Harriet Tubman is the only U.S. historical character that most people were taught about, and Disney usually doesn't do cartoons about oppression that hasn't been fully overcome.

Why is Alaskangrown a racist every thing she said is true. We as a people are not permitted any thing that has all white . With out the sh*t hitting the fan. Give Disney time you will have your princess , I am sure some thing will not be right and you will have something else to complain about.
