My friends son had that happen. no he didn't wera a brace or anything. according to the Dr, baby's heal fairly quick so they didn't do anything special for him. the Mom just was very careful and cautious to keep the arm kind of tucked in the blanket when she wrapped him up so it didn't get bumped or moved much when people would hold him

My baby was 8lbs 12oz and broke his as he was being delivered. He did not have to wear a brace, but it might all depend on the seriousness of it.
Some Doctors might feel safer knowing that the baby is wearing one. All you have to do is make sure that the babies arm is kept in one place.
Babies are very good at healing quickly and if all goes well it won't be long before baby can move the arm on his/her own. The Doctor will keep an eye on the arm, making sure as the baby gets older that he/she is using the arm like the other one.
My son is 1 years old and he healed so quick you would never of known that anything had happened to him :)

I broke my clavicle when I was born as I was born naturally. It is actually pretty common compared to other things that can happen (kind of like having jaundice, etc.). Most of the time, it can be easily repaired by popping it back into place. That was 22 years ago, in Germany, in a small town though. I don't know about nowadays.
My shoulder is completely fine now. It's not sad for that to happen. Just means the mother was smaller than the baby's broad shoulders. The hardest pushing time is when the shoulders come out.

From what I am reading, there appears to be no need for treatment in a newborn with a clavicle fracture. I only knew one person this happened to and the mom just had to be careful when moving the baby's arm. It was healed within 2 weeks.

Braces are recommended by many doctors. My old teacher says borken baby clavicles will heal without one. I have met people with broken collar bones when they have been babies, there seems to be nothing wrong until they have removed their shirts and have shown a small lump on their shoulders.
Best let your doctor who examined the baby to give you the options. Fishing for information like this can be confusing.

The clavicle is also known as the collarbone and is the bone that runs from the sternum to the shoulder joint. During labor this bone can be fractured and this injury is fairly common during difficult vaginal deliveries. Generally, there is no treatment other than lifting the child gently to prevent discomfort. Occasionally the arm on the affected side may be immobilized.
All that I have read leans towards "no treatment".

HOW HORRIBLE! i have never heard of that happening before... i feel so bad for the baby... if being born into this harsh world isn't shock enough! i would get a second opinion... but i imagine that they think that because the baby is newborn, and doesn't move much, that it will heal before the baby gets active. the baby was obviously to big to be delivered naturally?????? i just feel so bad for the baby and for YOU having to be so careful with that break while dressing and bathing... I'LL BE THINKING OF YOU BOTH!

We lucked out and my oldest son only had a bruised clavicle. Afterward, the doctor said that we should have done a c-section due to how broad his shoulders were. He's almost seven now and you can't tell he ever had a problem.
Good luck!

it can happen if the shoulders are a lil wider than the birth canal and the Dr is pulling if they reset it it should be fine as the baby stays swaddled for the first 6 weeks

Friends of ours had this happen when their son was born. He wore a brace for several weeks. I guess it would depend on the severity of the injury, as well as the danger of a punctured lung or other complication. May God bless and keep you.
