God is real? I'm tired of reading the same old "only the ignorant believe" and "you're going to hell if you don't believe" statements. No one's converting anyone either way on this site, so why can't we all just get over it and talk about something else?

I don't mean not talk about religion, but how bout atheists dont' answer questions about God, and religious people dont' dignify those ranting about God's non-existence with an answer. people with a religion, answer religious questions.

I think you have a point. If a Christian posts a question about the Bible or something, he or she does not need an answer which states that the Bible is false. If he is a Christian asking a Biblical question, he obviously believes in the Bible, and it is pointless to waste his answer space with people stating their belief that the Bible isn't true. There are plenty of questions asking what people think of the Bible, and that is where these people can state their opinion about whether or not it is true.

Very often when I post a question about Hinduism, I get people answering who are not Hindu and they don't even know anything about Hinduism, and they just want to condemn me. I don't see the point of that. If I ask a question about the meaning of a Hindu Scripture verse or something, it is NOT the place for someone to step in and say, "All Hindu books are of the devil and you're headed to hell."

There are a few questions about theology on here which I find interesting. I would prefer discussing doctrinal opinions with Catholics and Protestants. Or discussing the beliefs of Hindus and Buddhists, etc.would be great. The problem is that Atheist keep making false claims about God. I think it is funny that they claim to not have religious or spiritual beliefs, yet here they are on the religion & spirituality forum. Guess that proves atheism is their religion. I try to find a way to enjoy them. The intelligent ones for their arguments. And the less intelligent to joke back with. Sometimes they can be touchy though.
Sorry if your getting hit in the crossfire. Don't take stuff on here personal.

I will quote what I've quoted before, advice from a Rabbi regarding religion and science...

"I don't understand all the fighting between religion and science. Science answers how, religion answers why."

And I will again say, religion and science both seek to quench the human need to know all things, to see ourselves in a larger story, and to find out where we came from, and more importantly, why. You go back far enough, you hit one of two things... Science hits a "we don't know what was before this", and religion hits "insert deity here began it". Both are equally valid, and should not criticize one or the other as wrong since we honestly just can't ever really and 100% truly KNOW it all. So until one or the other can prove it with that 100% undeniability, the fact that the two are fighting is nothing more than petty bickering and narrow-mindedness.

"Why does every question asked in this category have to be turned into an argument about whether or not God is real?"

Well because that's the gist of it, isn't it? The first sentence in the Bible says that in the beginning GOD made the heavens and the earth. If that's true then every discussion has to proceed from that point. We have to take into account that mankind is not the final arbiter of what is right or wrong or what constitutes true wisdom.

As a Christian I don't post things in this section just based upon what pops into my head and seems like a good answer to give. I compare the questions to what God has said in the Bible. People who for whatever reason don't want to believe in God but who have made themselves their own personal "god" get offended when someone claims that there is an ultimate, infallible source of truth and morality and so they want to "knock God out of the box" at the get go.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

A lot of god questions are directed towards atheists. And for me, it really is all in good fun. I don't expect people to change, but it is nice to think that they may consider things you say. What else do you want to talk about in the Religion and Spirituality section? Muffins?

First: no one is forcing you to be here or even ask your question.
Second: How do you know that no one is being converted one way or the other? You assume too much. Religion is usually a battleground. Just take a look at the Middle East.

Why don't the atheists just stay away from this category so the religious people can ask their questions and get real answers that they want to hear?

People who are always trying to shove religion down people's throats just have no lives. They call themselves true believers, but how can they judge so many people? They don't have the right to say who is going to hell and who is not. We don't even know if there is a hell.

well obviously as with politics, religion is one of those taboo categories and you have to expect to have responses from both the extremes - but I do feel that there are wrongs represented by each side - whether its atheists who claim there is no God because there is no evidence for him (although atheists cannot show any evidence to disprove the existence of a higher being) or its ignorant "believers" who feel that the only way to enlighten the other side is by attacking their beliefs and using faith as evidence - each side needs to re-evaluate itself - i'm spiritual but i don't let that allow myself to automatically KNOW there is something higher - we should always be open to the other side

I believe we're not the same people asking the same question, are we? Let us give others a chance to their quests for answer/s. And if you want to talk about something else, it is a sign of love if you just switch topic yourself. There many topics to up from if just use your mouse.
