No, but really, Pancha, you must know they do.
There you are, on the mysterious plains of Africa reading a book, and up comes an !Kung Bushman, startling you greatly, but he just says "So, what are you reading?"
Really, it's universal.

English was declared the national language for a reason. It is so people can communicate with each other in the business world.
I speak three languages fluently (English, Spanish, and American Sign Language), but here in America? I want my damned food served to me in ENGLISH. I want my flight tickets sold to me in ENGLISH.
If I am going to a place where English is NOT the official language, I will do my best to learn it by studying tapes or something of the like before I get there.
It is respectful of the country you are residing in (whether temporarily or permanently) to learn the language of the country. I don't care what language you speak to your friends or to your family, but in business matters, you should always conform to the native language of the country you're conducting business with. Period.

1/3 of all people in the world have at least a basic understanding of English. A basic understanding does not mean a mastering of the language. Many Mexicans have at least that basic understanding and some fall into the other 2/3.

Hey, when in Rome do as the Romans do. It's nice to keep ones heritage and be proud of that, but when you're in America, speak the language and assimilate to the culture. Afterall, there are things great about this country that made the immigrants immigrate here in the first place. Then, help us understand your culture in the process. But, just remember, America never asked people to come here. People came here voluntarily and/or stays here voluntarily.
How would the people in Mexico feel if visitors refused to learn its ways and drained its resources all the time.
I'm only taking this attitude with you because way you phrased the question. I do know wonderful Latinos whom I'm proud to have in this country. If you didn't mean anything demeaning to the US, I apologize. But, this is a great country still because of its desire to improve and recognition of human rights, and it frustrates me when people who immigrated here for better opportunity just takes advantage of the generosity or trash talk our ways of life and our values. (I'm an immigrant myself, so I know what it's like to not have the freedom and the opportunities offered here, and you should too.)

NOBODY has too assimilate to the Americans. The whole world should learn english but as their second or third official language, and the people of the U.S should stop being so lazy and learn another language to make it the official second language.
Don't be so lazy and try to learn another language for God's sake. Aruba knows like 4 languages and it's a small island.
BE ASHAMED.

That's funny. I know a lot of Asian people that don't speak one lick of English. So no, it's not just Mexicans that are not assimilated.
I don't think everyone in the world should assimilate to the Americans. I see it this way; if we were to judge people because of their religion, and if we were to be so selfish to think that if certain people are not of the religion that we believe in than they shouldn't be a part of lets say a certain group, or in our neighborhood, then why would we judge someone because they don't speak the language that we do?? Does that make any sense?

Reminds me of the joke: We are MicroSoft you Will be Assimilated!
I don't think that the English language will win in the end though.

I've read many of your posts and it seems you just hate americans. I would suggest moving.
Let's say you live in another country and want to engage in international business. Are you going to learn spanish to communicate with mexicans * a poor country/less revenue for you* or are you going to learn english to communicate with americans *overall rich nation with lots of spenders to increase your revenue*? I know that's a long question with probably bad punctuation , but you get my point. lol

NO, not everyone in the world has to speak English, but it sure helps!
Actually, I greatly respect people who can speak two languages, that is not easy....I do feel illegals and legal immigrants should learn English...
I think bilingual education has hurt Latino children! When I entered school, there was no bilingual education, I was forced to learn English....And I hated it and felt stupid at the time, but I eventually learn it and I am grateful I did learn English....
When I used to volunteer at public schools and children who spoke no English, only Spanish, had a much harder time learning and assimilating into the system.....I think it is important to speak both languages, but in schools English should be taught....

Well, since English is the "lingua franca" so to speak of the world, educated people all over the world really do speak English. Uneducated people all over the world, of course, only speak their own language. It's not arrogance, it's just kind of true.
